Zbrush, some undo entries will be deleted to preserve system memory issue

Good day, I’ve recently bought Zbrush and I am constantly running into this problem. I don’t really know what it means or how to adress the issue.

I have 16GB memory, with 351GB free space on my SSD drive. I am also writing my scratch disk files to a separate 4TB HDD. Furthermore, I have increased the reserved undo memory slider in PREFERNCES to max, but still nothing is helping. I have only 4 subtools of which the largest consists of 2.5 million polygons.

What should I do?

Thank you
Willie

Hello Willie.

If you receive this message, it means that you have reached the threshold set in Preferences> Undo History menu, and it’s notifying you that some entries will be deleted to free up space. Remember that a project file saves ALL tools and subtools loaded into it, and each subtool has its own undo history. This can add up quickly. If you don"t require all those extra tools loaded into the scene, consider only working on your active tool as a ZTL (tool) file. This format only saves the active tool.

Also remember that you must store the config (Preferences> Config> Store config) when making changes to the preferences in order for Zbrush to remember them at startup.

If you’re saying that this happens when it shouldn’t, for instance in a brand new session without many undos , then there may be an issue with your installation and you will need to contact support. If it’s only happening in that file, then the simplest explanation is that your file contains an undo history that exceeds the preference settings.

Hi Spyndel, thanks for the reply.

After your advice, I checked that my config is stored. I have moved to saving my file as a ZTL (tool) file. None of my subtools had any undo history and on the first brush stroke I got that message. I decreased my max undos size to 1 and it takes longer for the message to come up, but when I subdivide to 10 million polys I get it on the first brush stroke again. increasing the size is worse.

Surely it must be possible to go to that number of polys to sculpt fine details such as skin pores without getting the message? At one point I got the error when storing a morph target in a brand new session. I get the message in any new scene I open when there is barely any undo history. (Note this occurs in any new scene with any new sculpt when dividing to 1 million polys or larger).

Sounds like you need to contact Support.
