zbrush fibermesh to maya ->dynamics-> render with vray? possible?

Hello guys,

I’m new to this zbrush thing as i’m learning it but was wondering how would you go about something like this:

creating fiber mesh - lets say hair or for this example just simple grass on a plane.
Then taking it to maya and make that grass dynamic
and then at the end rendering the animation with vary (is it possible or do i need mental ray?)

is that actually possible? easy to achieve?

Thank you very much

cant help you too much but I was trying to do something similar a while back. I believe there is an export curves button in fibermesh - theoretically if you can import the curves, then you can link them dynamically to either the fibermesh geometry exported from zbrush, or generated paintfx hairs in maya. Most of the work will be on the maya side figuring out how to link all of the dynamics

I think it is possible, but unless you’re pretty experienced with the maya dynamics system it is fairly difficult to achieve unless things have changed since I last attempted it about a year a go.

I know when I was trying to get it to work I could get the fibermesh geometry imported no problem but had issues gettting the curves imported. There were also some maya scripts floating around that could generate the curves from the fibermesh geometry.

hope that helps a little bit

Thank you, I thought that the curve approach might be the case but I was hoping for something a bit more easier
Thank you for your time and suggestions, much appreciated
