ZBrush Animations!

Hello,

The video below shows a few example test animations that I created and rendered 100% out of ZBrush! I just learned how to do this several days ago, so I’m still figuring things out.

Thanks,
Dave Wolf

Very cool indeed…can you show us how?

yes please!

Wow! the separating balls was cool!

is this stop motion? love the skin material on the creature. where can i find it?

SolidSnakexxx: Thanks man! I would like to show you how, so let me pet a mini-tutorial together. In the meantime you can find the basics that I got from this thread.

Watch the Turntable Plus tutorial by Paul or (gabo1991)

I’ll show you how I expanded upon this to make more dynamic animations.

Kikoshi: See above.

SadamHu: Thanks! It was an extremely quick test in the ability to split meshes, such as cells dividing. It took a total of 3 hours including, dev, render, and comping in AE.

moonlitmaverick: It’s kind of like stop-motion meets blendshapes! So the skin material in this video was a composite of a few custom materials, but you gave me the idea to combine those into one custom material!

Just save the image attached to your desktop (or wherever.) Then in ZBrush, import the image from the Texture menu. Now open your Materials palette. Select a Startup Matcap Material from the top section, then select the “Modifiers” pop down menu. At the bottom, below the Base is the material image. Click on that, and select the image from your Texture menu. If you like it, you can save it as a zmt. and load it into your materials folder in the application. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Dave Wolf

Very cool!
Thanks for the link, and I’m looking forward to the mini-tutorial

i thought you got your hands on zbrush4?!?!?!?!?!?!

I thought you might have been good mates with Darukin who is developing an animation Plugin.

Santis: Thanks man! Well, you made an obj for us Mac guys, so I gave you something in return.  The tutorial to follow.

JohnYip: Nope… not yet! Muah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

SadamHu: Actually no, I do not know Darukin, but I know of him. I saw his ZAnimation plugin before, but he never actually released anything! It was also for 3.5 so I knew it probably wouldn’t mean anything for me anyway… being on a Mac. I think I’ll send him a note to show him what I was able to do, without knowing any scripting.

Hey, I really like where your head is at. I’d like to do some similar things.

Hey ZWolf, nice work.

As far as ZAnimator, I apologize for all the delays etc it’s just that I can’t get back to work on it till this summer (when I might release it finally) for various reasons (it’s a side project I work on in my spare time as you see).

Furthermore, did you see the new Zbrush 4 videos? With Zbrush 4, ZAnimator may not even be required.

But yes with claymation this will be a super fast process.

Again nice work.

Wowlex: Thanks man! I guess my head was inline with Pixologic because they just announced a feature that will make this stuff much easier. Mine is justa workaround with a feature already available, so please look for my tutorial soon.

Darukin: Hey! I’m glad you responded, because I was going to contact you. No worries about not finishing your plugin, but it did look pretty sweet. I completely understand lack of time, because I am working full-time +, and an ongoing freelance gig on the side, while still trying to maintain a social life, and pay attention to my girlfriend.

You were the one that inspired me to even think this was possible in ZBrush, so thank you my friend! I can’t wait to see more about these new features because I have some very practical uses for this in my business. And it’s just fun!
