I’m using the default shortcuts and am not getting the Function Key shortcuts mentioned on that page. I’m on OSX running Z4. Also if I try and program the Function Keys it doesn’t differentiate between F1, F2, F3, etc. It considers it one key for programming purposes.

Also (probably a dumb question) but what is the popup+t for the standard brush or popup+e for the move elastic? When I do the brush popup for brushes and hit “t” I get the t brushes, or in the case of “e” get the elastic brush.

The other stuff works and thanks for the info page, it’s very helpful.

Cometsoft,

Thanks for pointing out the difference on the Mac, I have edited the page accordingly.

The ‘popup+t’ is misleading. It should say you press ‘B’ for the popup followed by ‘S’ and ‘T’ to get the Standard Brush. I have altered this too.

Thanks,

I am new to zbrush and I have zbrush4, you may know this already but on the shortcut page… Zbrush lets you know that the Function Key shortcuts are for PC only… I am a mac user myself…

Is it possible to config my keys for hideing back to how they are in 3.5 -3.1 …ctl+shift drag to select ctrl+shift click invert etc… i’m new to zbrush too.

L667A,

It’s not possible to change those assignments, though really they aren’t very different from 3.5 are they? What problem are you having? Remember that there are several new selection options not available in the earlier versions.

Yes they are different.
Before where you would get the tool tip overlayed on the selection box telling you that if you want to invert the selection to cut away, release shift. I get into zbrush 4 and I try and do that, no tool tip tells me anything about the new hotkey configuration which is just poor communication of changes to the hotkey setup.

The only way I found out about the changes was coming here and finding this thread.

Just seems counter productive.

Anuxinamoon,

I’m sorry if this gave you difficulty, though the changes were mentioned in the ZBrush 4 documentation.

The new method is designed to be more productive. Holding Alt to reverse the selection is much more intuitive because it follows the general convention within ZBrush of inverting an action. Added to which, you can now release Ctrl+Shift and press the Spacebar to move the selection area - something that was not possible in earlier versions of ZBrush.

Sorry if my reply came across with some venom. Ever since my workstation was upgraded with zbrush 4, I have been trying to go about my work pipeline on the basis of previous zbrush versions. Obviously I should learn to read more. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway the last issue was the straw that made me pretty annoyed. I have been having constant issues with well known hotkeys, specifically undo, [ ] and assigning new shortcuts. I think I have fixed the undo problem and read up on the new hotkey keys, but the [ ] still won’t register for brush size.

Thanks for your help so far!

but the [ ] still won’t register for brush size.

See here to show how to set these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywzj2oNPVSs

Oh thank you so much for your fast reply! Now I can get back to making art!

Thanks again!

why was [ & ] disabled in ZB4?? i had to look this up and watch a video for it? come on.

Why can’t I assign 2 and 4 as hotkeys…

I am digging into Z4R2 and it seems that Alt+Click is not doing what it had done in Z4. This used to center the current subtool in the window, but now it seems to do nothing.

Does anyone know if this functionality has been removed, moved to another key combination, or is it user error?

I think this may have been removed because some people found it annoying behaviour, as the same hotkey selects a subtool. You can use the ‘F’ key instead - this will toggle between framing the subtool you are working on and the whole model.

@marcus_civis

Thanks, I didn’t know “F” performed the same function.

Under Preferences\Edit\Enable Auto Center - set the slider to 1 to use only ALT. I think Z4R2 now defaults to 2 (ALT+SHIFT).

Thanks

Hi all… I am wondering how you can hide all inactive subTools? I thought it was Shift+; and ; to toggle this? Using ZB4!

Have I missed something?

Cheers

If you turn on Preferences>Edit>Allow Click to Solo then clicking the background will toggle all subtools off/on. If you like this behaviour then store the configuration (Shift+Ctrl+i).

If you want to use a different hotkey then you can assign one to the Transform>Solo button.
