ZB4:: How to paint SCALES variations?

Hi, sorry my english first

How u paint Scales?

After u finished a figure that has many scales, like dinosaurs, snakes or crocodriles, how u paint the scales to look like each scale has its own color? because if u just brush them, the scales look awful, also if u just paint over skyn u loose the little lines arround the scales wich are whitter, because dark scales are over whitter skyn; i justed to paint scales over the textured skyn scales, but after watching other artist jobs i know its posible.

I have tried by modifying the depth of the brushes but this only works fine for big scales, not for little ones, i also tried drawing scales with the color but scales look in an awful dissorder, i attached images of the resault i need, of course i would like to know in case of several color scales not just dark ones.

please help.

I think it is skill question, not about soft

  1. zbrush RGB+layers+cavity or AO masking
  2. Zapplink photoshop
  3. spotlight

Thanks but i ask for a 3D object sculpted at zbrush not a picture retouch or i dont know what u mean with Zapplink Photoshop, lol  im not so advanced at painting, i just want it to look as real as posible.

Zapplink + photoshop I mean Zapplink plugin, which gives You opportunity to paint sculpture in photoshop.

oh… sorry. I still do not know You asking about painting scales or sculpting. If You asking about sculpting with alphas May be it will help

What i mean is Paint Sculpetd scales, course i know how to make scales, im asking how to paint those sculpetd scales after u finish your model, because if u paint just like that, the resoult doesnt look real even if u paint with an scale alpha, in most real scales u see variations in many scales, each scale has solid diferent colors, i even attached a picture .

At first: You attached rendered pictures, may be that why it is look like real. It is not enought just to paint in Zbrush to get pictures like You attached . After painting You have to render, because in rendering process you get shadows, ambient occlusion, reflect, skin sub scatter and other.

in other hand, You can paint real looking, but it require skills with photoshop or other painting soft. I have saw how painting real looking in Zbrush, but ir require very good skills and time. I can not find this painting in youtube. If I will find I will give You link

I found this (it is totally amazing painting in ZBrush) : [http://www.youtube.com/user/TheArtofCJF
