ZB and reference image in backround

Hi,

Newbie on ZB here. Question’s:

  • how can I do that (see subject)?
  • where I can see a tut (video will be great)?
  • it is possible to have more viewports - front - side - top?

What I am trying to do is that:

  • position image on background
  • position a ZSphre and drag over image background

I have experience with Maya and Rhino.
My ZB is V3.1

Thank you
GAbi

You will create a new doc and set the ratios to correspond with your reference image. After resizing your doc, import the image.

Then you can import or create any tools you wish and it will be in front of that image for you to model around. If you want to see through your obj draw it onto your screen and before pressing “T” to edit the tool change your RGB intensity and you will notice that you can see through the object the lower your RGB intensity is.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for response. Still can you be more specific? Can you post a image?

TIA
Gabi

Thank you DAnconia. I was wrestling with this too.

  1. In the Document pop up menu click the New Document button. ZBrush will clear your canvas and replace it with the default gradient at the default size.
  2. In that same Document pop up menu, set your Width and Height to match your reference image size. If the image is 1024x768 use those values for your Width and Height.
  3. Choose the Flat Color material either by clicking on the material icon in the default screen left menu bar or from the material icon/button in the Material pop up menu at the top of the screen. If you don’t do this the image you import will be tinted based on whatever material you currently have selected.
  4. In the Document pop up menu click the Import button and select your reference image using the file browser that pops up. You should now have your reference image as a backdrop.
  5. select, load or import your ZTool and draw it on the canvas as usual. Don’t for get to hit the t key to enter edit mode. The ZTool will be flat white with no shading because we used that material back in step 3 (unless you previously used Fill to directly apply a material and/or color to it - in which case, the next step is unecessary).
  6. Select the material of your choice. It will automatically be applied to your ZTool.
  7. Have fun sculpting.
Hope this helps…
