Hi all!
Most linux junkies will tell you that Gentoo is the fastest flavour of linux…as anyone who tried installing Gentoo will tell you, Gentoo is Complicated as hell to set up… and there are thousands of ways to make a mistake.
Is there another way to get a speedy Operating system for free?
Try this!
Yoper!
Yoper stands for Your Operating System… and that is exactly what it is!
I have been beta testing for thease guys, and all I have to say is “WOW! what a cool team of people!”
Distro Watch did a major benchmarking test with yoper and Gentoo, and YOPER won all the tests hands down.
Out of the box it is a very complete linux Distro, the installer is top knotch, the only complicated part is when Fdisk starts… after that, it is all smooth sailing…
Here is a Email they sent to me:

New ZealandThe “fastest out of the box” OS, YOPER Linux V series, continues its global climb with the next stable release of V2 tagged 2.1.0, a powerful OS built upon the proven speed technologies that have made its predecessors famous.
Known to be a commercial strength Desktop Solution at 0 cost, this release provides the power user with many new features, encompassing REISER4 support for the root filesystem, new non-destructive NTFS resizing, graphical partitioning, option to use GRUB or LILO bootloaders, a new clustered control panel, KDE 3.3.0 Final, Linux Kernel 2.6.8.1, default Firewall and the OpenOffice.org Office Suite, all provided on 1 CD. The default “look and feel” has been enhanced and many bugfixes have been applied, including PCMCIA support during install and support for PPPoE.
Hundreds of new optimised software packages have also been added by the Yoper Team. They are all available for free download via the APT/Synaptic Yoper repository. All the attributes of Linux in combination with unparalleled speed, superb security enhancements and international language support, have been integrated under one remarkable Operating System.
Soon they will be implementing SMP and 64 bit support :D
Right now I can use SMP and 64 bit… but it is still in testing stage, and is unstable.
if you want to add new life to an old linux box this might be your solution!
