Work in progress (nudity)

Hi,

Just one of a few realistic human figures I’m working on. The feet still need attention, but I’m pretty happy with how its coming out so far.

Season’s Greetings Scott!!

I love your model. There is alot of detail in there that you are paying excellant observations to…I dunno who your model or inspiration is, but this is definitely real looking to me. Yeah the feet need a little work, but they don’t look that off to me. Kudos and Happy New Year’s …look forward to more about this model. What is your poly count on the model?

thnx for sharing

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the feedback! I’m working partially from photos of a model, but I decided I wanted more of an old warior look to him, so I’ve bulked him up a bit. Im going to try to age him up a bit more, maybe make the hands & joints a bit more arthritic looking (probably need to track down some retired nfl linemen for reference :D).

This guy is ~ 400k polys in the render. I have him subdivided one more level in zb, but maya cant handle the model at that count.

Scott

hi Scott

he’s looking pretty good so far. if I look at my knees and hands…arthritic…pretty nobby and bumpy. could prob get good reference pics from arthritis foundation links.

6 toes?

aminuts - thanks for the sharp eye. Wow - I cant believe I gave him 6 toes. Fixing that should prove interesting. At least I can fix the other figure Im doing (using the same cage, but in the early stages).

Feeling very silly…

Scott

Nice structure and good overall modeling, glad you only got the toe count wrong anything else could have been pretty risky

Well - here’s an update with some subtle tweaks. And of course not so subtle (the extra toe). it actually worked out ok - I was able to smooth one out of existence pretty easilly & move the other ones over.

LOL willog!

lol Scott…that just cracked me up when I read about the 6 toes…I didn’t even notice…that put a big smile on my face for sure…

You know this piece inspired me today to sketch a nude male…I may end up posting it when I finish…was a great way to spend the day with my brother…ie at the kitchen table drawing…

Looking at you model, I find myself seeing a resemblence to a 41 year old zbrusher I know…though the 41 year old’s belly is slightly larger and I…oooops I mean he …wink wink has more of a double chin :)…

I am enjoying this thread…

i like it!!

nice volumes and definition in the right places. it has a good sculpy feel to it. The only thing i thought was that the chest is maybe a bit big, compared to the otherwise rather flabby anatomy. Just a tought.

Hehe Ron - looks a lot like a 37 year old ZB-re’s belly I know!

Thanks sheb - I was thinking of him as a little barrel chested, but you may be right. I’m a fan of Alex Ross’s Superman (the paunchy middle aged looking version), so I was thinking along the lines of those proportions without getting too outside what’s credible.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Scott

Well, this has nothing to do with my original posts, but I was doodling today - I love this program!

Doodling? I hate you. lol ^^

My doodling usually consists of a blob, and turning it into a… face? lol, maybe. Your doodling consists of turning an already great model into batman lol. Looks nice though.

lol moweddp! yeah, I have some basic heads readybuilt to doodle on (but I always end up doing a little remodeling in maya first). I was checking out some smoking work on http://www.thesculptorscorner.com & was loving the batman busts I was seeing. I’m not much of a comic guy, but the bat is way cool.

Great link,

thanks Scott.

hey,
just checked ur homepage, nice work, like very much! very interesting in ur fake lighting, and Faux sub-surface scatter shader test, would u please give me a intro about ur shaders, how it works with maya shadering work?

Where can I get some good tutorials for Maya? Or how can I learn how to use it as far as modeling and such, I have tryed and it’s so complicated compared to ZBrush! lol

Hi,

A few people have requested those shaders/tools I was working on, so I’ll try to locate them and post them for download (I moved recently and my files are sort of scatered between a few machines, drives and cds). I’ll post a link when they are up.

Hi Mo -

I’d start learning modeling with Silo - its a relatively simple, inexpensive program that has some amazing tools. You can learn all the basic principles of polygon modeling there and that would all translate to Maya later if you want. Also, the models go into Zbrush no problem.

A lot of people seem to do some great work with zspheres - but until v 2.5 you dont have a lot of specific control over the flow of the mesh.

You might want to check out Zack Petrock’s Gnomon DVD - a cool way of working if youre more comfortable in ZB than Maya. I kinda followed that process here.

Just my 2 cents…

Thanks a lot, I will look into all this stuff and see where it takes me!
