Win Tab Services not available (resolved)

Win Tab Services not available

Upon totally new installation of the newest zbrush this message appears.
After clicking it moves slightly to the right and down, it does this
a total of 24 times. Then program starts.
When closing program, it appear 12 times and must be clicked.

edit: just noticed that when new document is selected, same error message,
24 clicks are required.
Will not post if I find more, since installing have not gotten far into using
program
developing blister on finger.

After this post was submitted, did further research, found that this
message will appear if there is a problem with tablet.
Went to www.wacom.com and downloaded updated drivers for
my tablet. Error message no longer appears.
Should be noted that this is the first day of installation of new version and
I need a nap.

Thanks to moderator for help

Glad you got it figured out, and are now finally running 3.5!

Happy ZBrushing!

Your advise also solved my problem.
Thanks for the help-Matthew.

I’m having this same problem with a Cintiq 12WX on Win 7 64-bit. I have repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled Wacom’s latest driver. Every time - at least after restarting my machine and opening ZB - I again receive the Win Tab error message. When I uninstall the Wacom drivers, reboot, reinstall the drivers, and restart ZB, it works. But I’d love to not have to reinstall every day! Any advice would be appreciated.

hey just wanted to add that i ran into the same issue just now. it was fine yesterday or the day before. i downloaded the new wacom drivers, installed and restarted and all seems to be working fine. thanks for the post, it narrowed down where i had to look.

if it help anyone else, im running win xp 64-bit, with my intous 3 on zbrush 3.5r3.

Thanks. I uninstalled the old drivers, re-installed latest driver from wacom.com and the error message is gone. Too easy

FYI,

even though I downloaded the current Wacom drivers (per this thread), still got the popup.

I called Pixologic, and the nice phone support guy said to check the device manager for a Wacom device…I did, and disabled them, but still got the popup.

I finally checked the Installed programs via the control panel and found 3!
So un-installed them and now no problem.

I’ll use a tablet eventually, but don’t need it yet.

Hi Gang-

My rig is an Alienware Aurora
Intel Core i7 260
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
12 Gigs Ram’
Wacom Intuos 3 9x12 tablet.
ZBrush 3.5 R3

I did exactly what the knowledge base said: Installed latest Wacom drivers and disabled the Tablet PC Components in Win 7 resources.

I am still getting the “Wintab Services not available” error message.

I put in a support ticket - anyone here got any other ideas?

Thanks!
Cathy

I still have this problem, too. The only workaround I’ve found is to open the Wacom Tablet File Preference Utility, and click on All User Preferences-Remove. This fixes the Win Tab error; unfortunately, it also deletes all customizations to the touch strip, etc. Is it possible the problem (bug?) is that I’m using the Cintiq as my second monitor?

No, it’s a problem of some kind with the tablet driver and you should contact Wacom.

When you launch ZBrush it checks to see if there is a tablet. If there is a tablet, it requests the WinTab service. If that service is not available, Windows delivers the error message you see.

The problem here is not being caused by ZBrush; it’s being caused by either the lack of or a problem with an OS component that ZBrush needs in order to use the tablet correctly. The WinTab service is installed by your tablet driver. So if the driver isn’t present, isn’t installed correctly, has a problem with the WinTab service that it installs, or if your WinTab service has become corrupt then this issue will appear.

Which screen you’re using as your Cintiq will not affect the status/presence of the WinTab service.

Hi Gang-

I uninstalled the original Wacom software which I had installed from the CD, rebooted and installed the Driver 615.3a. which I downloaded from Wacom.

Everything works great now.

Thanks for your feedback!
Cathy

You don’t need to reinstall drivers. Just unplug your tablet and wait a minute then replug it and restart z. This makes Win7 identify the tablet and reconnect to the proper drivers [if you have the newest one installed properly].

Just try the unplug before you do anything else.

None of the other stuff worked for me, but the unplug did.

Yeah bro you’re right, i still get the message now and then if i haven’t plugged the tablet in and got the pen working before revvin’ up zbrush :+1:

Ecove,

Thanks for the post.

Had the same error on my new laptop showing the WinTab Service popup

Tried your method and it no longer pops up.
Zbrush runs great now!!!

I have a Cintuq (new one) it is rocks being able to use it. Hope to start using the tablet and Zbrush when I get off work tonight.

Despite having the latest drivers my Wacom will sometimes fail to function. Starting ZBrush will give the ‘WinTab not available’ error. What I do is to restart the Wacom drivers like this (Windows Vista):

  1. Click the Windows Start button and choose Run.
  2. Enter ‘services.msc’ in the Open dialog and click OK.
  3. Scroll down the Services dialogue until I find ‘TabletServicesWacom’.
  4. Right-click on ‘TabletServicesWacom’ and choose ‘Restart’.

Hi guys ,I tried all the previous things ,with latest Wacom drivers my Photoshop CS4 and Modo stopped to work ,the only relatively useful driver :
614.3 which is two generations older giving me that annoying message WinTab not available repeating 12 times ,I know that this is not ZBrush problem ,I am just trying to have my pipeline working.

hey guys just sharing my experience. i disabled my tablet’s driver and it still didn’t work, i uninstalled the driver and it still didn’t work. turns out the problem was with a program called “macro key manager”, that came bundled with my graphics tablet, it installs as part of the driver installation and works in the background, it lets you launch other programs using your stylus with the macro keys on your tablet. i had to uninstall that program via control panel>programs… once i did that zbrush finally worked. in fact i would try that before messing with the driver to begin with.
