I’m trying to bring in a tif file from Photoshop CS and Zbrush just gives me an error that says “unable to read specified file.” I know that some older photshops do not support 16 bit, but I’m using Photoshop CS. I’ve even opened a file that Zbrush created as a dsiplacement map, opened it in Photoshop CS without doing anything and saved it, and Zbrush will no longer use it. I tried to make sure the files were tif instead of tiff and that does not work. What am I missing?
SAme problem with Photoshop 7, glad you asked the question.
Anybody???
More than likely your file has been saved with a compression scheme. Like “LZW” for example.
Open your files in photoshop again and save them as tiff’s again but this time, pay attention to the dialog box that pops up, choose “NONE” as your compression. It should load into Zbrush without problems.
HTH
No, this is not the case, I am always very careful to choose “None” as the compression type. Thanks for the try though. Its really annoying the hell out of me. I think there must be some sort of Photoshop Preference that we are missing, but for the life of me, I cannot find it.
I have checked with the developers and was told that in order to avoid possible conflicts from the way that Photoshop writes TIFF files, it’s best to export the file from Photoshop as a PSD. This will still retain the 16 bit depth.
So from ZBrush, use TIFF. From Photoshop, use PSD.
Hope that helps!
I second that why use tiff’s when you can use psd, much better in my option.
In programs such as maya and poser when you save as tiff you get
the alpha.
At least we know we are not totally crazy.
Thanks guys.
Thanks Aurick for your help. I thought I was going insane.
