Why might Zbrush ocasionally freeze up my computer when minimizing or maximizing it's window?

This is only happening with the Zbrush app on my PC.

Some times when I minimize the Zbrush window to check my email or something, and then upon trying to maximize the zbrush window by clicking on its icon in the windows task bar, my computer completly freezes up. I cant even access the task manager to shut down Zbrush, I have to hit the power buttton on the machine and then swith it back on.

Does any one have any suggestions on what might be causing this? Thanks.

Hi @Zolly

Running Zbrush on a system under the recommended system specs could cause performance issues, if that’s applicable.

Otherwise there’s no real way for us to troubleshoot your computer. This isn’t typical behavior. Computers can perform poorly for all sorts of reasons–heat issues, power issues, driver issues.

The fact that the issue happens when maximizing your window might suggest an issue with the GPU, or it might just be a case of a computer rushing to catch up with the new demand of displaying the active window–especially if it’s under spec. You might also want to add Zbrush to the whitelist of any active antivirus you have running, in case there is some sort of conflict/scanning burden there.

Thank you for that info Spyndel.

ZBrush can be a demanding program at times. Even the most demanding video games do not need such powerful equipment as for 3D modeling because this is what makes processors, video cards, RAM, drives, and motherboards improve.

ZBrush can be a demanding program at times. Even AAA games don’t need the kind of equipment you’d require for 3D modeling. For example, 3DS Max requires 3-5 times more power than, say, Red Dead Redemption 2. You need to consider getting a new pc. Otherwise, you might lose your project in zbrush due to crashes and whatnot. In that case, only raid configurations will save you. Predicting the optimal build is always difficult because the load on the system increases with the complexity of your project.
