Well, from the screenshot it tells me Windows already got 8.4GB of Virtual Memory allocated? So you should be fine. Over here I’ve got it set to “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”, just let Windows decide what’s needed. There’s no need to manually adjust those settings, no matter what some might say.
Maybe it’s an 64-bit issue? I’m just guessing here? But your virtual memory seems fine. Did ZBrush ran before? Or did you get a new system and started to have troubles? It’s not really clear as to what happened or was changed which could cause ZBrush to report that message. Could you please provide some extra information, so we can help you?
i have mine set to custom as well and here is why, from the internets:
Windows uses a “paging file” to handle it\’s virtual memory, which in a nutshell is simply temporary information stored on the hard drive. Because this file has the potential (by Windows default settings) to be growing and shrinking in size, it can be become fragmented and lower performance. By making your page file a constant size, you can prevent it from becoming fragmented which could boost your computer\’s performance.
i set both boxes to what is recommended or 1.5x your Ram.
btw what are your zbrush memory settings at, undo and all that?
is it a large file you are working with?
i notice you have 3partions or drives, how much space is left on the zbrush drive? also check the zbrush vmem folder, if you’ve had crashes in the past that will sometimes fill up, you can clear it all out(zbrush should be off)
how often do you defrag your drives?
ive jus done a defrag and it seems to have helped, also im jus gonna let windows decide on the vmemory issue.
i jus upgraded my vista to ultimate 64bit. i’ll see how it goes now guyz and let yah know…
thanks for yah help,
much appreciated,
many thanks

ZBrush does not use the Windows page file. ZBrush uses its own virtual memory, located in the ZBrush folder. With your system you should set Preferences>Mem>Compact Mem to the max value of 4096. But also make sure that the drive where ZBrush is installed has a good chunk of free space.
