UV map - islands dont cover grid?

New problem for this rookie (that being me) :p:

I have managed to model, polypaint, retopologize and UV map… but I can’t seem to adjust the UV map to make the islands fill the flattened grid? I can move islands around in the map, and even scale them in relation to eachother using the Transpose tool. But whenever I scale the islands as a whole to cover the map/grid like in the 2nd pic, ZBrush always reverts to the map in the 1st pic!? There must be some way around this? Exporting this as a texture map makes it use a large portion of the texture map with black/blanks…

If the parts are in several polygroups, try scaling each group individually.

Usually after unflaten and then flatten againg Zbrush packs all island to cover all the UV space for you. As you mention you can scale them proportionally to each other. But it´s strange if it gets you the first picture result. Do you have Zbrush updated to P2?

Hold Ctrl+Shift and drag a green box over just the mesh (in its flattened state). Then hold your cursor over the large Current Tool thunbnail in the Tool palette. You’ll get a pop-up with some information. See if there are any Hidden Points. If there are then you have some stray points that are causing the problem.
