User Interface Configuration Info

For all you power users who want (almost) ultimate control over the ZBrush UI :-), information on UI customization (including how to create and add new menus and submenus) is now available at http://www.zbrush.info/docs/index.php/Interface_Customization

Cheers,
docguy

Wow. Didn’t take very long for someone to find that. I’m glad you find the info useful!

Great! only thing that bothered me ,is if you ever press the store config in rapid UI your stuck with that same UI whenever you load Zbrush the next time,
thats untill i deleted the startup UI,and saved it with another name.
might be something to keep in mind before you press that store config in rapid UI.otherwise i love this software and its features, cant live without it, cant even go to work without wishing i was home and playing with it,

a nice feature,if not possible allready would be able to have multiple rapid UIs,
Customized UIs that loads just by pushing a button like the rapid UI,
One for texturing one for sculpting and so on.currently iam only aware of loading them manualy.

Matt,

Thanks for this WIKI page, it explains a lot!

As long as this thread has been started. here are a few questions I have about custom menus (I’ve only read through the WIKI page once and haven’t had time yet to experiment, so if I missed something obvious that I ask about below… apologies ahead of time).

  1. If we create a custom menu, can we share just the menu with others? Or, must the custom menu(s) be included in a saved CustomUI file and shared that way?

  2. How do you move a custom menu between different CustomUIs on your own system?

  3. Can custom buttons be moved into custom menus and saved there as part of the custom menu?

  4. Can ZPlug buttons be moved into custom menus and saved there? Or, can ZPlug button sets be assigned to custom menus by name as you might do with default menu palettes?

  5. If you share a CustomUI which includes custom menus with custom buttons and custom ZPlug buttons, how would you do that? Assuming it could be done, would you make a .zip file that includes all of the separate files and a readme file saying where each of those files should be unzipped?

I guess you see where I’m going with this. Others might be interested in this info, too… but, if you don’t have time to answer just tell me to go try it myself and see!

Hi Zwe,
Funny you should ask… I wrote a plugin a while back called ALTVIEW for ZBrush2 which does exactly that using the backslash as the hotkey to page through alternate custom UIs. I haven’t updated that script yet for ZB3, but I think an enhanced version might work really well. It’s on my list!

Sven

Thanks for this Svengali!
looking forward to an update off that.

Regarding your your questions number 3 and 4 Svengali.
yes you can if you mean to move an plugin button to a custom palette/menu
or any other custom button aswell.you need to doc the menu too the left or right side before you try to add the buttons
works perfect.

UPDATE: I was a bit hasty here. I’ve checked further, and there are a few lines in AltView that need updating to accommodate ZBrush3 changes. For anyone who wants it, here’s a working version of AltView for ZBrush3. I’ll be creating a whole new thread to formally present the new version in a day or two.

Zwe,

First, thanks for the info on custom menus…

I just tested AltView with ZB3 and it works fine. (ignore the reference to ZBrush2 in one of the popup window screens.)

If you want to try it, download the AltView.zip file and dump the contents into your ZPlugs folder. Next, you should store those alternate .cfg files you want to swap through in the ZBrush3 folder…

Restart Zbrush and in the Preferences>Config submenu press on EditView which will bring up the UI list which will be blank. Click in one of the five empty name slots and, in the directory dialog, click on one of your custom UI files in the zBrush3 folder… repeat until you have as many as five alternate UIs in your list, then press Done.

Now, and any time you use ZBrush in the future, you tap the backslash key and cycle through alternate views! Replace views any time by going back to EditView.

Sven

p.s. any questions or problems, just ask.

Thank you Svengali, i dident have time to test the old version last night, but il give this a go,

thank you so much , i really missed it … its nice to have it again on Z3
thanks
