Unable to Merge Subtools

Hello,

I’ve only been using zbrush for a few months now, and only done a few unfinished models. So I will try and explain myself the best I can.

I made a model out of spheres. The fur that is on the models chest is also out of spheres, and each piece of fur is its own zsphere(I did this so i can move them around more easily and then merge them). After I was satisfied with the way it looked, I made them an adaptive skin and then dynameshed them and smoothed them out (image 1).
Now I want to merge the fur pieces all into one subtool. While I am on the main subtool (the model) It appears (image 2), but when I am on the fur subtools or even the tail subtool, it does not appear(image 3).

I’ve been looking around and can not find any solution of why it is not wanting to merge with the other subtools.

Merge visible would be the more logical option to use. All subtools with the icon active would merge. But for me sometimes it doesn’t work and I need to use the option mergedown, going to the top subtool and merging each subtool with this option one by one.

Did you select the new skinned version of the ZSpheres in the Tool palette? When you press Tool>Adaptive Skin>Make Adaptive Skin a new tool is created in the Tool palette with a name beginning “Skin_” You need to use that in your model, appending it as a new subtool, and you’d need to do the same thing each time you have used ZSpheres. Otherwise you can run into problems. I think that your subtools are still ZSpheres and that’s why you don’t have the merge option.

I am having a hard time trying to find out on how to append them. After I click on the furs that have the skin_ name on them, it goes into a thing where they are by themselves. When I click on the append button, I do not see my main subtool to append to, just all the other fur ones.

Make sure that the main tool is selected/active, then click Append…
