Turn off mouse gestures?

I first thought I had a bug in ZBrush when every time I wanted to smoothen things I zoomed in suddenly,

After a lot of searching both here and via Google I found out that it was a mouse gesture (http://3dstuff.posterous.com/undocumented-zbrush-features-part-1-by-scott) that I was unaware of that caused me to zoom in to the area I wanted to put a smoothing-stroke. I have the tendency of wiggling the pen just above my Wacom to get the right direction/length just before placing it on the tablet and actually draw, so I keep zooming in over and over again.

It bothers me quite a bit and I can’t seem to find a preference setting where I can turn it off. Anyone got a clue as to how to end these gestures in Zbrush 3.5r3?

Thank you.

that should do the trick.

Hi goast666,

Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately I think this has nothing to do with Windows 7 gestures, I turned all tablet-PC related stuff off right after installing the OS.
Although I have Windows 7 Home premium which hasn’t got gpedit.msc, as mentioned on the site you refer to, I switched off everything that could even remotely resemble anything like it in my Dutch language Windows 7.

The gesture I am talking about is some experimental navigation in ZBrush I think, probably to be fully implemented in release 4. (That´s what I make up from all the snippets I read on various sites anyway.)

So I think it has to be turned off in ZBrush itself, or maybe start it up with some switch in the command-line.

Try holding [Shift] and wiggle your pen a few times just above your Wacom (I do from top right to bottom left, just a few centimeters) and you will zoom in on the part you wiggle above.

I have done this for years and years, just wiggle a little before drawing, since when I started drawing with pencil. So it’s a habit that I cannot easily get rid of… :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope anyone has an idea how to fix it?

Thanks.

PS. Forgot to mention I hold down [Shift] while wiggling in the first post.

huh. I’ve never noticed that before. ever. I guess I don’t track my strokes when I am smoothing. I do the wiggle before commiting to sculpting though. It doesn’t seem to have an effect on this though.

I have no idea how to turn that off…but I can see how that would make it difficult to sculpt.

It’s not a tablet function either, the same thing happens with a mouse.

i wish this could be turned off as well.
snwbrdr i can understand trying to untrain yourself about the movement, but why not just train yourself not to hit the shift key when doing it?

Well I do like the method of laying down a few strokes of clay/claytubes and quickly smooth i out by just pressing [Shift] which switches to the smoothing brush and releasing [Shift] to switch back to the clay brush. It’s a very intuitive (and fast) way of working for me. Manually switching between the clay-brush and the smooth-brush throught the side-panel all the time interrupts the ‘flow’ quite a bit, but if gestures will be implemented (and documented) in the next releases I guess Pixologic will put in a preference setting to turn it off. Maybe just try to work around it for the time beeing, either by not using the Shift-key or by concentrating on not wiggle around so much…

But if anyone has an idea, please let me know. :+1:

I too would like to be able to disable the Mouse/Table pen Gestures.

It’s too easy to get thrown off or in to your model :frowning:

Dear Pixologic, please fix the issue of alt click and the mesh suddently getting centered (therefor ruining the workflow). Also, please fix this shift + cursor movement that leads to strange zooming in, that is also very desruptive. This is a wonderful program and minor setbacks such as this one should not get in the way of working with zbrush. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I want to bump this up, I have got to the point of swithing to mudbox because of this problem. It costs me a lot of time. as you have to keep moving the tool back into position.
please tell us how to switch this off pixologic. it is severely counterproductive to have this “feature” it does not zoom or rotate in a controlable way anyway. all it does is waste time.
Thanks
