The SpiderMan Noir

Hi guys !

I want to share something I made with a friend.

This is our own interpretation of the SpiderMan Noir, based on a design by Carmine Di Giandomenico.

As you might see, we were really inspired by the outstanding Flash Noir by Chris Brand. He is an awesome artist, and that’s his work that made us wanna do this model.

I made modeling and texturing, and my friend made texturing aswell and lighting/rendering/compositing.

Model done in Maya and Zbrush, texturing in Zbrush, Lighting/Rendering in Maya V-Ray and Compositing in Nuke.

I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we did when we made it.

Coments and Critics are welcome !

And a little turn around, straight from ZBrush with just a BPR (I didn’t change any settings) and textures.

Cheers !

Honestly, i do not find any resemblance with spiderman here, besides the hand in the spiderweb throwing position, theres nothing that actually makes me think thats him.
If you look at the flash noir, you`ll notice the flash logo all over the front of his jacket, the old fashioned logo on his shoulder, and the mask and his haircut really gives a nice resemblance to flash.
A spiderman logo somewhere culd make a huge difference, and give more work to the mask ans clothes in general, just as it is right now, looks like an average guy with a leather mask and jacket. And the render is ok but the materials, lighting and textures need more work too. Just my 2 cents.

Have you seen Spider-man Noir the comic? http://i.newsarama.com/images/SMNOIR001_cvr.jpg (edit: better example: http://www.comicvine.com/myvine/bobokrypto101/games/108-426160/spider_man_noir2/105-1514569/ )

That pose doesn’t show his chest, but he doesn’t actually have a logo on him. At least not on the front of him, can’t remember the back. I think it’s a well executed model and great texturing! The slim proportions are dead on I personally knew it was Spider-man noir before I read the thread title.

Hi there

To f roldan : I agree with you, it doesn’t look a lot like SpiderMan. Yet, I tried to make him look a lot like the one from the comic, and… Well, even if of course my modeling is millions years away to be flawless, he DOES look like that. He does’nt have any logo on him, even on his back, and he really looks like an “average guy with a leather mask and jacket”. I thought about doing a logo on the jacket, but I didn’t want to copy Chris Brand’s idea, because the original SpiderMan Noir doesn’t have one. Don’t take me wrong, I don’t take your comment in a negative way, and I’m not offended (even if I may seem that I am). On the design sheet, his goggles are bigger, but they are smaller in the comic, so… tried to do an average size :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re right aswell about more work on the mask, but I noticed that sometimes, depending on the MatCap you use, the details (especially the folds) look really different. I wanted to come back on this model and improve it, but I decided to let it like that and improve the modeling on my next model.

But thanks for your comments anyway, I take good note of them !

tobbeo : thanks for the kind comments

Hey Lad_,

I am more interested into people interpretations so I am so glad that your concept is not just another copy paste of the original. I even prefer your version over the original one. I am kinda tired of super-sized heroes and villains with so this one with more realistic body proportions is exactly what I was looking forward to find surfing through ZBrush boards.

I like the technical part as well. I would say great job overall! I would just like to see more renders, especially a wire-frame one.

Best regards,
Ivan

Thanks

Here are a couple of WireFrames from Zbrush. Dunno why sometimes you see the wireframe of the backfaces of some objects… !
