The Jaws of Life

Hello fellow artists!

I have been working on a 3D project for my own growth and practice. The first part of the project was to model a great white shark, with photo real details. Next up is more modeling for other elements which I will post as I get close to finishing, but I wanted to get some WIP images out here so that I could get some critiques.

I want to thank everyone who critiques and hope you guys like it.

THX - Let me know what you think!

These creatures are so beautiful. Looking forward to seeing this as it progresses.

SO! Beautiful those teeths! are amazing!

No wonder bmw z3 is so attractive (go figure haha) Master work!

Thx for the comments guys, I’m glad you guys like it.

manzarek123 - Its ironic that you like the teeth, because thats the one area I don’t feel i’ve put any details or variety in.

Cherub_Rock - I don’t understand the BMW z3 comment, but thx :o

Very nice model… I like the organic torn to his details!

The side design of that car is based on this creature

Very good sculpt, no critics except maybe that the end of the fins and tail seems too much damaged and ripped compared to a real shark. Good work!

I agree with MightyReg. This is looking great so far though.

Looks great so far. Looking forward to seeing more.

Yeah the battleworn shark that’s certainly seen some action or hunters is a brilliant thing to add it really adds to the realism of the model, looking forward to seeing this baby textured as you’re sculpting/modelling is flawless to me…

Thanks.

Hey ZBC,

I’m sure everyone has forgotten about this post since its been so long since I’ve updated it. I’ve been texturing the shark and have got it to a point where I’m ready to show it and get some feedback. There is some obvious stuff I have to do, like clean up the seams, but I’m working on that. I just wanted any criticisms out before I called it quits on texturing the sucker.

I appreciate all C&Cs, and questions.

Just when I thought it was safe to go back into ZBC!

Looking good and scary!

Sweet  My favorite animal! I think you did a good sculpt. A couple of notes on the accuracy of the model:

  1. Teeth need a lot of work. The difference between the upper and lower teeth aren’t apparent enough. They’re not sharp enough and you could put some more teeth on the inside of its mouth on standby.

  2. The eyes could be a bit small compared to the nostrils. I might get confused by the nose profile which seems to be a bit to thick/wide. The eyes shouldn’t stand out too much either. It’s in a bigger socket than you might think.

  3. The fins are a bit too damaged. They lose the sharp edges they have.

I hope you learned a lot doing the project. I really look forward to sculpting a couple of sharks myself

Very nice!

Hey ZBC,

Thanks for the comments.

Mikademius - I agree with you 100%. I actually haven’t started texturing the teeth, just added shaders and tried some SSS test to see if they would help.

Keep em coming!

Ok ZBC,

Here is the finished product of my labors. Let me know what you think.

looks gr8! I feel the head is too large for the body. Look at the eyeball size. I feel the size of eyes gives a very important indication about the size of a creature. A goldfish is generally tiny but has enormous eyes relative to its body.

Also you might want to work on the lower jaw. I feel it is set too far back relative to the upper jaw. The mouth opens awkwardly. I feel the upper section should be more or less in line with the spine and the lower jaw should open downward. You might want to reduce the scarring on the fins a bit. presently they are looking too serrated. Just my two cents.
