The Gloaming Trilogy

Hi everyone,

just a note to anyone in Wellington, New Zealand, that there’s an incredible fantasy art exhibition – sculpted and printed art from the upcoming trilogy of books, The Gloaming, by Johnny Fraser-Allen, who is a senior sculptor at Weta Workshop. Easily on the level of imagination, internal world consistency, and detail of the Dark Crystal, or the Labyrinth. Just had my mind blown, going back on Friday, which is the last day. If you’re into fantasy art, don’t miss this! It’s on at Shed 11, down on the waterfront.

I just went today!
I visited Weta, (saw the extra “workshop tour” they just started this week) and Grordborts Exihibition (also weta) and have to say that allthough I enjoyed those two immensely, I got the most inspiration from The Gloaming. When the book comes out, GET IT!

Unfortunately, the exhibition closed today, was very lucky, came in at 2:30PM, was supposed to have closed at Noon! His Imagry is stunning, Photoshopped scenes using the sculpted maquettes, I Understand (or so they told me). I think this needs to go on to be a feature film. It exudes a joyfull orginiality, while harking back to eurocentric Fey.
Check out their facbook page, and support this wonderful artist!

Nice photo!

Yes the artist has tried to do minimal digital editing after photgraphing the sculpted characters in their sculpted environments, I think one of the placards said he altered the final image slightly to make it look more filmic, I guess just in lighting quality, fog, etc.

Totally looking forward to the first (and then the rest) book coming out next year.
