Softimage or MotionBuilder?

What is the best software for animation, Softimage or MotionBuilder? If you can say me also advantages of one or another…an explanation. I needed it for facial animation, but later (maybe) also for body animation, so now I want to start learning one of them. Thanks in advance

with motionbuilder you still need other software ( maya )to render out the results.

softimage 2010 added face robot, 2011 they added lipsyncing to facerobot.

i know back in 7.5 to can create motions and save them in clips. ( so if you have characters all with the same rig you can add the same motion clips )

softimage is the whole package

Thanks for the answer. So, I suppose that in Softimage you can create complex motions, like in MotionBuilder? Am I alright? And also, can I create Motion in Softimage, and render in Maya, or same quality can be achieved with Softimage render?

motions are based on the rig thats used.

in softimage there are premade rigs for humans.

but as for creating the motion and transfering it to maya… i’m not sure about that because i’ve never tried. but here is some info about softimage and some features. crosswalk going to maya and 3dmax and gator using different characters and different rigs.
Crosswalk is a utility to help transfer Softimage content in and out of 3ds Max® and Maya® pipelines using the latest dotXSI, COLLADA, and FBX standards.

The Crosswalk components in Softimage have now been packaged as a standalone setup, complete with an installer that can automatically detect existing installations of 3ds Max®, Maya®, Face Robot and Softimage, and install the appropriate plugins

Generalized Attribute Transfer Operator (GATOR)
GATOR enables you to reuse existing work by transferring surface attributes between models.

  • Transfer surface properties (such as materials, UVs, clusters, skin weights, vertex colors, and shapes) between models, regardless of complexity or topology.
  • Merge completed textured and animated models that have different geometries without losing important characteristics
hope that helps

Thank you Smolloy, it help. I search the internet more for additional information about animation and exporting  Thanks
