Skias Onar practise thread (nudity)

Hello everybody
I´m neither new to 3D modeling nor to ZBrush, but I was never really good in things like anatomy.
I was very intimidated for a long time because of the fantasic works which were posting here by great artists .
Because my skills are very low, even after a long time working with 3D apps, I was afraid to post something of my own for a very long time.
But now I’ve decided to make a new start to improve my skills a little bit. Therefore I’ve opened this thread to show you some things I’m doing with help from ZBrush.
Please give comments so that I know what I can do to improve my works. Thank you very much
Sorry for my English, but I’m not a native speaker.

That’s a head I work on since a few houres

Hey Skias,

Welcome. Great idea to join in here.

I like the looks of this guy. The head has good volume and form.

I’m no expert. I won’t try to offer anatomical critiques or specific techniques.
There any many members here who have more experience than I do in those areas, and I’m sure they will respond.

Instead, I have just broad suggestions. These are very much personal opinions, so please take it or leave it as you see fit…

Play as much as possible. Do not get too caught up in trying to be perfect with anatomy and other aspects of realism – even if your ultimate goal is to create highly realistic characters.

Working from references can be especially inhibiting. It is vital to study, but trying to simply replicate things gets in the way of learning to sculpt and see.

You will be able to achieve that realism and accuracy more easily (and with more style), it you first get very comfortable with just freely pushing things around. I’d suggest doing lots of quick sketches… try exaggerated and cartoony characters. Get loose.

Best Wishes,
Darrel

Hello Darrel,
thank you for your comments and suggestions. I’m not try to be perfect, but I want improve a little bit. To do first more cartoony characters is a good idea and I think, I will post some of them during the next weeks.

That’s the next update of the head model

Do you share your Matcap please?

Hello MOHMO,
sorry I can’t share the matcap because it’s a commercial one. If you want, you can buy the matcap here http://gnomonology.com/tutorial/221

That’s a new version of my model with a new matcap. If you like this
matcap too, then you can download it inclusive the complete model

Whenever I see models that are this good and a request for critiques to make it better, I generally say the same thing: it looks great, people look SO many different ways. It is very realistic, even idyllic. It’s just about done. Just smooth up some of the lumpiness of the form as a whole and maybe focus on making the toes and fingers more realistic. :+1:

Hi everybody
-EricShawn : Thank you for your comment. It will help me to make the model better.

Here is a little update of my model.
I reworked some parts of the model. Some critiques would be nice

For critiques I would say that the rectus femoris and vastus internas (thigh muscles) may be too distinct. Not many average people have leg muscles that defined in a neutral pose, but I’m sure pro body builders might.

Also, the knee and the ankle seem to be a bit too close, and I might even bring the ankle in a bit to further distinguish it from the gastocnemius area, or lower leg muscles.

Lastly, the eyes may be a bit too far apart (one eye length between them is usually a good measure point), and the mouth seems rather flat instead of conforming to the more cylindrical portion in that area where the mouth and base of the nose sits.

But good stuff overall.

Like EricShawn says, this is good sculpting, but I do believe critics are good to get tho. And I bet you can get lost even if working with reference material, because when you look at a model for to long it tends to just blend in to your brain, and it’s not to easy to spot things that can be corrected to get it better. I was not going to write that much as I did bellow, but stuff just kept popping out

It depends on how realistic you want it to be, and if it’s a human and not an alien or foreign sort of human, but some human anatomy is of:

The first thing I noticed was his thumb, it should be twisted a little bit, look at your thumb, you hopefully got one right infront of you. The second thing is his ankle area, it’s kinda squarish, but could be that your foot needs to be wider. And the knee, it’s not two “half moons”, but one “fullmoon” with wrinkles

His quadriceps ( upper leg front ) looks off, atleast not right. The back of the upperleg seems to have gotten the same treatment as the lower legs, but the muscles in the upper leg differ from the lower. Outside his abs you’ve given him a couple of more “bricks”, instead of just the muscles who are covering the ribs. His triceps are attached to the lower arm muscle, but it should really just stop at the elbow.

This probably seems like alot, but it’s only small adjustments really, go to flickr. Search for some body builder images to see how the muscles looks when they are defined.

EDIT: Since i’m working out a couple of hours a week and into fitness, I should probably learn the names of these muscles and stuff. But I bet it’s just easier to explain with other words since a normal person dont really study muscle names anyway :stuck_out_tongue:
