Skaven Assassin

This is my first complete character model using Zbrush. It was modeled after the Skaven’s Chief Assassin. The Deathmaster, Snikch. I have yet to see a good Skaven model and seeing as it’s my favorite Warhammer Army, I had to oblige. Hope you guys like it. The model was done in Maya and Rendered in Mental Ray.

Awesome, simply awesome. I like the glow on the wrist bands and the knife.

This looks really good very nice render. The only thing bugging me is there seems to be a million in one shadows but I dont see any cast shadow from the knife and the shadow directly underneath the character im not sure what that is? perhaps there is a light coming from the top that is only casting a shadow with the cape.

excellent modeling though. I’ve never played warhammer but the character design is pretty sweet.

Cool looking model. I really like the rendered image. Great work. :+1: :+1:

altphotodude: Thanks glad you like it

Evan: I know what you mean about the shadows. These are shadow maps rendered with OpenGL to save my render times. Originally I was having trouble with the shadows being so dark that you couldn't see much of the lower half. Once I switched to opengl it was much lighter but still retained the shadows that I had wanted. I guess there was just no softening on that one spotlight. Ill be sure to look out for that in the future. Thanks for the kind words.:+1:

SolidSnakeXXX: Hah awesome man. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback guys. ZBC seems to be a good place for feedback...hopefully I will get more of it.

Here is the Simple Shaded model rotation

Very nicely done - you’ve captured a lot of spirit in this character.

I thought I would take the time to post some pictures of my ztools since they might offer some greater detail. Also might give some insight into my workflow showing the begining and end result.

Boozy: Thanks! it means a lot. I really was trying to bring the character to life.

For those of you that like lore…this may be for you.

I just hope the little rat bastard (as we affectionately call them in our gaming group) doesn’t skitterleap out of the screen. He looks like he’s ready to. :+1:

looking at your work i have some questions:
how do you make a character like this using multible parts ???
what program did you use for the compesition ? 3d max or maya or somethen ?
how did you get the displacements look so good then and how ar you able to do this without overloading 3d max xsi maya ?

I used maya. If you read the original post it says what I used. And for all my normal maps and displacements I converted them to .map files for mental ray. All maps range from 2048 to 512 resolutions. It doesnt overload maya. Both hands are one object and so are the bracelets. The arms are one object and so are the legs. There really arent that many objects. And if you know what your doing in the aproximation editor you should be able to render fine.

Nice Rat Great Modelling But Needs A Little More Detail In The Hands And Head More Detail Around The Eyes A Cut Or Something That Will Give Hime Attitude, It Is Just Constructive Critisim Do Not Feel Bad Friend, Cause Is Going Great, I Love The Cloak The Textures Are Great And A Better Render Maybe Try Mental Ray Or Something, Cheers Friend Keep Working Hard
