Sin City - Marv (Mickey Rourke)

Hey there,

That’s just a bust that I’m modeling while I’m not writing and enjoying my holidays. I’ve just seen Sin City and thought that the make-up guys did a great job on Mickey Rourkes face (heh! ;)), so I thought I’d also give it a go. It’s kinda hard to create a model that has to resemble someone, but I can need the practice

Still many problem areas here, nothings detailed yet, still trying to get a little more resemblance before I’ll go wild with the higher SubD lvls. The only problem I currently have is that my references kinda suck, so I’m trying to find a balance between some murky, blurry shots from the movie and the Marv action figure, heh. C&C would be appreciated, as always.

Oh, before someone asks: It’s 100% ZBrush, used ZSpheres to block out his face and went from there.

Buen modelo y se parece un montón.:+1:

great model looks like a exact duplicate of marv great work BTW i luv MARV

Excellent Marv head, you have modelled him very well

Seriously, great work. Looking forward to seeing more.

Wow! Really good likeness Thomas! Good job, man! :+1: :+1: :+1:

Thank you, guys!

I’m not that happy with the model at it’s current stage, but I’ll keep working on it until I’m happy, hehe!

Kolby told me that he’d send me some good references on Monday, so I’m sure that I’ll be able to capture his likeness - Glad to hear that you guys already like it! Been a pretty fun sculpting session so far, except that I always had to sculpt and resculpt parts thanks to my crappy references - But, what the heck, at least it’s good training!

Looking forward to sculpting all the scars and scratches!

very awesome likeness nods very cool

I agree with one here. Great model in its early stage and I can only imagine how great will look once you complete it.

Nice work there. The likeness is coming along great.
One little crit though would bee that at the moment it looks like he is smiling, which dosen’t really feel like Marv that much.
Also found this image of a clay Marv, it’s a bit different more geared towards the comic than the movie bbut figured it might be inspiring anyway.

that is looking perfect! 10 out of 10 points…

i did like him in the movie and i do like the way you modeled him, keep it up… i really hope to see more of him!

wow! I can’t believe how so close you are! I just got around to watching it on DVD this past weekend and to me, you have him stone cold! Great job!

Damn you. :stuck_out_tongue: I was thinking about modeling Marv, but you beat me to it.

You’re on the right way my friend!!Keep it up…

HHH:cool:

Must have… MORE!

Gee guys, thanks for the feedback

Kolby sent me some very good references, I’ll post updates soon, stay tuned!

nice work texture to a high standard and its top row i recon :+1: :+1: :+1:

hmmm! Niiiice! I like this design… Mix realistic/charricatural…

Very nice…

Guys, call me Mr. Lazybones… Got a new GFX Card and had to test-drive it for a few days now, didn’t really sculpt a lot in that time

Nevertheless, I invested some time to work on his likeness, Kolby sent me some great references (Thanks, Kolby!), I think I’ll be able to heavily detail him with those. But before I go into Skin Detail, I still have to refine some parts, the nose, the forehead, the cheeks, etc.

So, here’s the update:

I don’t think that I’ll post any more updates until I’m a lot further down the road - It’s just a lot of work to work on a sculpt that has to resemble someone, I think the next update will already focus on detailing and stuff.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys!

PS: (That shot is about 3-4 hours behind my progress, I know that the ear was kinda squashed, already worked that out).
