"Shark Face"

Hello everyone

This is a remake of a model that was in my showreel that I made just after graduating from the university of hertfordshire last year. The original model was rushed and I didnt quite know what I was doing in zbrush. I didn’t know any techniques for serious detailing and sculpting and it showed. now since I have been practicing using programs like Mudbox and Zbrush I have become quite alot better than I was a few months ago.

The story behind Sharkface is that he’s supposed to be a mutant who lives in the sea. His skin isn’t much like human skin because it is constantly in water so he has skin similar to an amphibian but resembles the same colour and texture characteristics as a human. The little designs on his nose and neck are inspired by the markings on the Leopard shark.

Both displacement and normal maps were used together sized at 4K. The other textures were made in photoshop and I painted over texture seams in Bodypaint 3D.

I’m rather happy with how it turned out though I think there is still alot of room for improvement in all aspects of this creation.

Hope you like it, Please feel free to comment

thats a nice idea :+1:
i think maybe if yull add an inner jaw of a shark and those shark’s pointy teeth then itll add for the sharky look of it and maybe a paller skin is needed because ive never seen a fish with a skin of our own (but ive never looked for one either ) but you know abit of a pale skin (to get the “not like our skin but almost” look) might add other then that (and those are only ideas of mine that you dont have to take into considiration if you dont like to) thats a nice concept and im w8ing for updates

Nice job on the sculpt, I think one of the creepiest parts of a shark are the cold, black eyes, so think about changing that, and what effect it gives. And I agree with abc about the paler skin tone. I would think that if this guy spends most of his time underwater, it would be paler. But yeah, other than that, good job :+1:

thanks for the comments, yeah I’m not super happy with the textures. Originally I was going for a more pale skin tone on certain parts but I didn’t like how it looked, I wanted it to be somewhat more human in that aspect and I didnt want it to look too similar to the shark/human character from the pirates of the caribbean sequals. At some later date I will probably tinker with it and change it something else.

As for the eyes and teeth. I also experimented with making eyes black and it looked alright but I felt it didnt have the intensity in the stare that it has with human like eyes, It looked blank and lacking a creepy/scarey stare.

I didnt have shark teeth because I think it would have been a little bit of a cliche to do so, Its seems like that would be in every design of a human/shark mutant so I didn’t want to go in that direction. Though I did think about giving him human teeth but have them arranged in rows like a shark’s teeth are, If I go back and tinker I’ll probably try that idea out.

Thats alot for your comments
