Sewer Dwelling Monster

Illustration done for an article on creature design and development for the December 2010 Issue of the 3D Creative Magazine.
I was asked to design from scratch a monster given an habitat, the sewer in my case. I did a lot of researches about the environment and the features of the animals that live on this habitat and then I developed a belivable creature based on my studies.
Modeled in Maya/Zbrush, rendered in Mental Ray.
Hope you like it!

Awesome work! Love it.

Very good mood to the render. Like the colors allot. And the sculpt as well the concept is stunning.

Would you mind to share a breakdown? Or how you setup the render?

Many thanks!

Thumbs up man. Thumbs up!

nassstyyy! nice work!

Really good.
Any more views in zbrush?
and of the process?

Really love it.

Pwhoar! That thing just evolved to walk on land and taste some land meat huh? :+1:

If it’s a fantastic job, the concept is very good.:+1:

I love that. Colors, shadings, lighting and modeling are all very good.

Thanks very much to all of you for your kind words on my image!
I worked very hard to get everything working the way I wanted, from the creature to the environment so it’s very rewarding to have such great feedback
There is always room to improve, I had some ideas that would be nice to develop, mostly for the background, but due to time constraint I had to cut something… but overall I’m satisfied how the images turns out.
As far as breakdown or setup I used, I wrote a very long article (15 pages) on every aspect of this image creation process, from the sketching to the final render and it will be published on the December 2010 Issue of the 3D Creative Magazine; so if you are interested please give it a read because, besides technical aspects, I also wrote about my approach to the subject and the development of a creature from scratch so I think would be an interesting read.
Btw the render setup is very simple: 3 point lighting and SSS shader for the creature, phong for everything else
If you want to know something more specific drop me a line by mail
Thanks again to everyone!
