Setting Z up default??

How can I make the default up axis, the Z axis? Also, How can I make my default symmetry axis, the Y axis? In other words, when I activate the “floor” button, it shows the Z plane as the default floor. And, when I press the “x” key, I’d like it to automatically default to using the Y axis for symmetry. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Y is up and down. Z is front to back and X is left and right if viewed from the front. Get the Axis plug from the forums…

You can’t change axis to default to another. As far as changing symmetry to default to the Y axis, you could record a Macro of the change then hotkey the macro button.

I have made a Macro for Y Symmetry if you want to download it.

Just extract the zip to your ‘ZBrush 4R6/ZStarup/Macros/Misc’ folder and the button will be in your ‘Macro’ menu under ‘Misc’. You can then hotkey ‘X’ key to the ‘Y Symmetry’ button.

What you can do is change how ZBrush imports and exports models from other programs. You change the settings in the Preferences>importexport sub-palette. For example, the Import>iSwitchYZ and the Export>eSwitchYZ options will switch the Y and Z axes on import/export. If you set these options so that your model is oriented the right way then you won’y need to worry about the floor or other settings. You can store the configuration by pressing Shift+Ctrl+i.

Thanks for the Z-up tips. They were really helpful.
