Seaquest DSV.........Zbrush Masters, I need help with this model, a submarine

Hi all,
Boy I sure hope someone with experience can help me here. I’m totally a newbie on all this and unfortunately my 3d artist friend( quite new to Zbrush) doesn’t have access to the internet so it’s up to me to try and find all this out for him, so here’s my dilemma. I have a model that I recently had scanned, bit of money spent there and don’t want it in vain… so here’s the situation… I need a way to take this scan and retapoligize( right word here??) it, or Zremesh , but I need to maintain all the edges and details of the original scan. The scan is 92 meg and once i added all the windows the output obj file was 978 megs, and this is without the final skin texture that will cover the entire model, so obviously it’s useless to me to do anything with except look at in Zbrush. The Trouble we are having is that with re-memshing it does lower the poly count , but it also smooths and takes away the details of the edges. Is there a tutorial that specifically explains how to maintain all details and lower the poly count or perhaps using the original scan in the background and adding the details back on the re-meshed model or a member on here that can walk me through the process that I can share with my 3d artist friend so he can get this to work. It’s important to me not to lose any of the original details on this model as they are signature details and shapes and my model is the original piece used to make the original show model. it’s only one side so must be mirrored, but that seems to be the least of my issues  please help me. Here are some images, since I’m brand new to the forum , they may not post , but giving it a shot anyway…

Sincerely,
Will

After you re-topo the model and sub-divide it again then you can project the details from the original. You can project the whole thing or do it in sections by masking. The projecting button is under the Tool->SubTool->Project section. You may need to adjust the distance, I usually use 0.25.

or use decimation master,
depends on what your friend want to do with the model.

File size is pretty useless info. Point or faces count tells more. Wireframe images are useful. We don’t know his needs. Will it be 3D printed?

Yes, the goal is to have it 3d printed for a 33" r/c model, same length as the maquette. I was watching a few videos about decimation master and this seemed like it might help…could you tell me more about this projection tool??? thank you for everyone’s input so far.
Cheers,
Will

It’s near the bottom of the subtool pallette. Have decimated model at top of stack and higher res below, select Project all. I hope he specified a file format to export. Not sure how you’re going to get your scale right, maybe they can adjust that aspect on the other end.

i can get the scale in the end, just need to maintain the details. now we are using an alpha to apply my bio-skin pattern onto the model, it sorta works, but overlaps and doesn’t like certain areas of the model… I had him do a skin test for the texture…this also will need to output on the 3d printed model
…any tutorials or thoughts to do this, it should cover the entire model… screen grab from the series and my coreldraw bio-skin
thank you,
Will

ok, let me see if i understand this…so i create uv’s for all the parts, unfold, then apply texture, is this a 3d texture applied like shown in my skin test photo ??? it has to be raised, will this uv mapping do this?
thank you,

Will

is there a way to select polygons individually iin Zbrush???

Set document size to something reasonable then you can use Grab doc and export the image without the UI. Sometimes it’s good as they are if we need to see your settings…

Hello,
another issue I need help with please…is there a way to fine tune/adjust the alpha orientation, ie angle, before releasing the mouse button which permanently adds the alpha even if it has the wrong angle. This was a problem i ran into applying the windows to the Seaquest hull

Cheers,
Will
