Scott Spencers Zbrush Character Creation and exporting tuff...

I am still fairly new to these forums but not to Zbrush.
I have been at it with Scott Spencer’s Zbrush character creation book, page for page for over 3 months now every day and to be honest I am quite dissapointed. Nothing I do works. I follow the tutorials step by step to try and export displacement maps to maya only to have the mesh exploding, its like a wireframe image but cut out where the wires are.

My only solution is to export a 500K poly model into maya. Animations are impossible but atleast I can still render a still image

My next problem is I have been trying to get my polypainted model exported out so I can use what I have painted as a texture in Maya. I have also followed the tutorials in this book step by step as to polypainting. Where I am told to click on ‘‘Tx>Col’’ , I CANT because its greyed out. Why its greyed out I have no idea as I’v followed all steps one after the other. I have also tried making a texture first before starting to poly paint which doesent help at all because when I do that, Whatever colour I try paint to the model does not show up

Can someone please explain to me where to a go from here to get that painted texture out for Maya (See attachement)

Maybe I’m overlooking a few steps and if I am, they arent printed in the book and it would help if they where. I am starting to get realy annoyed with Zbrush, seeing all these awesome renders that people seem to do without a hitch. Share your secrets PLEASE! I tried moving over to Mudbox, hoping to get better results but in all honesty, Mudbox is a piece of ****.

Well, to be honest it sounds like you’re not following the instructions as carefully as you believe you are. For example, Txr>Col is grayed out because it’s used to covert a texture to polypaint. No texture is assigned to the model, so the button isn’t available. To convert polypaint to a texture (which is what you’re trying to do) you need to be using the Col>Txr button. That button is not grayed out.

Have you read the online documentation at all? The link to it is in my signature. That site is laid out like a curriculum, wich basic stuff coming first and then building on that to get to the complex stuff. At the very least you can use it to flesh out something that might not have been clear enough from the book.

Aurick thanks a million for the reply. The online documentation did help a span.

I think Scott Spencer should re-check that part of his book tho’. As it does tell you to load up the poly painted model and click on the Tx>Col button as the beginning step… strange…

Anyways, thanks for the help again. :+1:
