scaling a mesh = smooth it?

hello there!

I’m new here and I hope you guys will be able to help me :3

I have a mesh in zbrush that i exported with GoZ to 3ds max and it is wayyy too small compared as the other meshes i’m working with. So i decided to scale it up and send it back to zbrush but it looks like I lose a lot of detail in my mesh like everything is smoothed. I try to scale it directly in zbrush (deformation->size xyz) * 500 and it’s the same result; everything’s smoothed.

the trick is to scale it in zbrush in its higher subdiv level and then everything stays the same.
So i’m wondering did I find a bug? :3

hi Jennifer i dont use 3dmax and goz is basically a button click saver - not knowing your 3dmax export settings, some 3d apps like
lightwave work with sub patch (curvature to polys) where as ZB does not - when you sub div a model
in ZB and lower a level the cage option becomes available which will help retain details in a sub patch app like lightwave and helps in poser too ! maybe manually import between apps experiment with cage option - check your 3dmax export - import settings -for scaling(size)use
>tool >export> scale factor -good luck

May be you exported the mesh with 1st subdivision level ?
