Hi everyone. The idea for this project came to my mind when I was re-watching Mulan. This has been one of my favorite movies from Disney because the characters are really funny and I’m always amazed on how cool the animations looks, how “flowy” and squishy Mushu looks and the overall feel of the movie. So, I couldn’t help it - I decided to recreate my favorite scene using 3D (ZBrush is my go to) while trying to use this project as a way to practice and experiment different tools and workflows inside the software.

The mental map I did to visualize the whole scene better (I also used original concept art to help me understand better what make Mushu be Mushu, this squishy flowy lizzard I mentioned before):

I textured Mushu using Polypaint.
Playing with the NPR filters was the best part and, in my opinion, really brought up the Disney magic I was looking for. Here’s the final result:
