Hi I am running ZBrush2 on my Imac G5 1,8mhz with 1.25 Gig Ram
Os is X 10.3.9

I have tried both versions of Zapplink and I get the same error message.

I just draw a sphere and colour it, then I uncheck edit mode and call up Zaplink, I select the mode and as soon as I click the mode It closes the dialogue box and gives me a message ’ Error encountered while attempting to launch external editor.

I have done all the suggested file association tips but I still get the same error.

Hope you can help

Bill

Will ZappLink work to paint displacement? Such as using the PM, going to Zapplink into PS, maybe use the Dodge and burn tool to paint diplacement?

Thanks for any info!

-Jim

actually no haevy bug, but i often got to switch 2-3 times between zbrush and photoshop til zbrush updates the edited and saved psd file and shows me the “accept changes” button.

greetz gd

thx:)

Willog,

could be a permission problem. Create a new account with admin privilledges (which you should have set up for troubleshooting anyway) and see if it works there. If it does you have isolated the problem to your home folder.

I’m running 10.4.2 on an eMac and I’m finding the first version of ZappLink works fine.

Now a question about Revision B of ZappLink

In the new revision it says that the psd app can be selected in ZappLink, I was wondering if that means that you can have Photoshop selected as your system app for psd files but you can then use ZappLink to select Painter to use for texturing without changing the system psd app?

Or does it mean that you can set the psd app in ZappLink but it still changes the system psd app.

I have major problem with my Imac, seems the logic board is dying on me, a common problem with a certain batch of Imac g5s.
So I will be without it for a couple of days.
Dogbone … I will try your suggetions when I get it back.

Just hope they do not lose my Zbrush as replacing it with Pixologics way of installation will be a bitch for sure,

Thanks for the help

Bill on his teeny weeny iBook

Hello, I have a problem. I downloaded the wonderful Zketchpad Zapplink and DispExporter RevC, - created Zplugs folder in my Zstartup folder - took the zscpts and the data folders and put them in the Zplugs folder. Now when I start up Z2 my interface won’t load. My finder bar Shows ZBRUSH OSX, but no document comes up. My arrow pointer has a little z under it showing a zscript is running (or trying to run.) When I remove the Zplugs folder Zbrush still won’t load. I have a start up document in the Zstartup folder where I created the new Zplugs folder.

I have tried this on my dual G5 running tiger. I suspect I have just done something wrong, but I’m not sure what. thanks!

Aurick still not working here.

Mac OSX 10.3.6
Dual 450 G4
1.25gb mem

Photoshop CS

Try renaming your UICustom.cfg to UICustom.bak. If ZBrush launches, you’ll know that there is some kind of conflict with your custom configuration. In that case, simply delete the file and create a new custom interface.

If it doesn’t work, the next thing to try is to rename your startup document and try launching ZBrush. Same thing here: If it launches, then the problem was in the startup document.

If neither option works, send an email to [email protected]. We’ll get you sorted out.

ZBrush isn’t changing the file associations in this case. Instead, it writes a text file called ZAppExternalEditorPath.txt and then refers to that file every time it needs to launch your selected external editor. This means several things:

  1. You can use a different program with ZAppLink than you use with your PSD files.
  2. If you upgrade your image editor or computer and the result is that the new version is located in a different folder, you’ll need to delete the file containing the editor path in order to be able to select the new location.
  3. If you want to start using a different program instead, you’ll need to delete the text file so that you can select a new program.
Hope that helps!

There was a conflict on my system that had nothing to do with zbrush. I had shapeshifter activated and, for whatever reason, it doesn’t like zbrush. Have switched back to Aqua and everything is working fine now.

I knew it was something I had done!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

Cassandra

You can leave shapeshifter on and put ZBrush on the “exclude list” in the shapeshifter preferences, which is what I have done.

Aurick,

I’m still having no luck with rev B of ZAppLink. (“Error encountered while attempting to launch external editor.”) I’ve followed every suggestion posted on this board, including going as far as doing a clean install of the system. :frowning:

Here are my specs:

Mac 10.3.9, 500 MHz G4, 768 Megs of RAM, 37.67 GB of free disk space, PS 7.0.1, Painter 8.0.086 (Both apps including Zbrush are not located in the Applications folder of the boot disk, but on a different drive.)

Now I have two questions:

Cassandra, what was the conflict on your system? Maybe it might give me some type of clue.

Aurick, is there any type of debug mode in Zbrush (I’m assuming ZAppLink is a Zscript(s)) to see what the ZAppLink plugin is doing behind the scenes?

Thanks again!

Well I have a question i unpacked it in the zplug dir, but when i start zbrush i firt need to load the zscript how can i make it that it loads at each startup

Thanks dogbone!

pixelsoul: My guess is that it’s within a folder inside the ZPlugs folder. The .zsc file should be at the first level within the ZPlugs folder, along with the plugin’s data folder. When ZBrush launches, it can only find plugins if they are in the top level of the ZPlugs folder. If the .zsc file is buried any deeper, ZBrush can’t find it.

theYiffer: All ZScripts can be put into a debug mode by moving the pointer to the upper left corner of the screen. This pauses their execution. Clicking the mouse while it’s there moves the script forward one command at a time and you can read what’s being done in the Note Bar. Not all commands can be seen in this way – if the ZScript is running a DLL in order to do what it does, then the amount of debugging information will be limited.

Sorry Yiffer, didn’t mean to ignore you - didn’t see your question.

My conflict had absolutely nothing to do with zbrush. I was using shapeshifter to customize my interface and it conflicted with the Zbrush custom interface with the result that zbrush was working, but invisible!

At least Aurick is paying attention, but then he never lets us down.

Hello…i instlled the plugin but is no working…here is the message i recive

And here is where i did the installation: root

My PC win version is xp, my image editing software is Photoshop cs 2, i have 2 gigs ddr Ram , i have all administrator privilegies, disk free space is.: 41 gigs

plase any help will be much apreciated…thanx in advance:cry:

Jorge -

You seem to be missing the “ZAppLinkData” folder. Of the files you are showing us, only ZAppLink.zsc should be there. The rest, data.mem, ZBrushDLL.dll and other should be in a folder called “ZAppLinkData”. This folder will be inside the ZPlugs folder.

Ryan

Hey thanx a lot…that worked amazing!!!

much apreciated man!
