Question Concerning 20 Million Polygon/Quad Limit

The progress on my first model is going very well but it’s a very complex model composed of many different sub tools (if that is the right word for it). Many of the sub tools are very complex and the total thing is about to hit about 10 million polygons/quads. I know an individual mesh (sub tool) can’t have more than 20 million polygons/quads but what about an entire model composed of many different meshes/sub tools? And by this I mean after you finish. I tested on what would happen if the total amount of polygons/quads was over 20 million (by dividing three spheres until each was at the limit) and the total went beyond 20 million but not for each individual mesh/sub tool. But I’m having concerns regarding the finished product of a model composed of multiple meshes with a total polygon/quad amount over 20 million:

If I want to paint, pose, and/or render my model, will I have to merge all of the sub tools as one? Or can I keep them separate? I’m worried that if I have to merge all my sub tools/meshes into one mesh, and the limit goes over 20 million, it will force me to reduce and I’ll lose too much detail. If I can keep them separate and still do the things I want to (paint, pose, render, etc.) then this won’t be a problem.

If you are staying in ZBrushCore, or rendering the model in KeyShot via the Bridge, there is no need for you to merge your model for any of those operations. The number of polygons you can use is only limited by what your computer can handle.

However, if you need to combine your model so that you can export it to another program the results from using the Optimize for 3D Printing button in the File menu are very good. For example, I’ve attached two images from a model of 3 million polys reduced to 100K.

Sorry this is such a late response! I got super caught up with school. I was originally going to just edit my post and include a response there but it wouldn’t let me for some odd reason. Anyway, thank you! It helped a lot! :stuck_out_tongue:

No problem!
