Projecting high res details onto low res mesh

Hello everybody,

I have created an object from scratch in zbrush, made a retopology so I can export the low poly mesh into Maya 2012.
I have unwrapped the low res UV’s and I want to project the details of the high res on it, in order to create a diffuse and normal map that I can use in maya on my low res object.

My problem is that when I import the high res into the low res subtool palet, or vice versa, they are not placed one on top of the other so I can project the details from the high res onto the low res.

How can I resolve this problem?

Thank you!

Did you try Tool>Deformation>Unify on both subtools?

If you’re rendering in Maya, you’d probably be better off baking the maps in Maya. This way the tangent basis used would be synced and you’d be left with the best result.

When that kind of mismatch occurs (probably an incorrect setting when exporting/importing the retopo’d mesh), I try to measure the size of the bounding boxes, and then scale accordingly to have them occupy the same space. Generally that works well enough (especially when baking a normal map in programs like maya/xnormal), and if I need them exact then a shrinkwrap deformer can put on the finishing touches.

Thank you so much for your help.
Tool>Deformation>Unify did the trick to mach the size and position of both subtools.

I’ll bake the normal maps directly in Maya.

Thanks!!
