polygroups and sub d

I don’t know Zbrush all that well, but on the older versions I could take and object and divide just one polygroup. Then I could again divide the same group and so on so that the on polygroup could have a lot of detail while keeping the rest of the object very simple. With the new version of Zbrush 3.5sr3 I can’t seem to do the same thing. After the first divide it mixes the polygroups together instead of keeping them separate like in older versions of Zbrush.

Is there a way to divide certain polygroups while keeping the polygroups separate?

Ji, why not try hide what you dont want to subdivide, an then subdivide? Is that what you are looking for?
Otherwise, you could physically split the groups into several SubTools and then subdivide what you want to subdivide.
Later you can merge them together again if you wish.

Let me know if this helped.

“why not try hide what you dont want to subdivide, an then subdivide?”

That is what I was doing, hiding all polygroups but one and then subdividing.
I figured it out though. After I subdivide I have to press the “auto groups with uv” under the polygroups tab and the old polygroups come back. Then I repeat the process. Hide all polygroups but one and then divide. Then I click on the “auto groups with uv” again to get the polygroups back.

Thanks you for responding.
