Ploygroup from deformed mesh parts?

Lets say I have some 3D text and I want to score it with deep scratches.
If I then want to texture in substance painter, is there a way to automatically generate a polygroup or matte so I can easily add a different surface to the inside of the scratches, as if the top surface of the text was scratches away, revealing another material underneath.
