I’m pretty green when it comes to this stuff.

I used Z2 for the 15 day trail and had alot of fun.
Been really lax in my studies and whatnot about CG in general, practical takes most of my time still. For the last year I’ve been off and on with it. So now I’m finally going to try to get somewhere… gulp…

This is the first thing I made, just made from a straight sphere (hadn’t learned the concept of looping or Zspheres or anything for that matter)

The second was the first thing done using Zsperes, = a quick PS paintjob, third is same headform, as an alien, painted in ZB

Not a bad beginning! Keep to it, and, welcome!

Thanks, I was editing in a couple more… I didnt expect such a fast response COOL!

I have quite a few recent projects, but I must save them as jpgs shortly before I can post

I like the wolfish man. His expression has a livelihood to it.

This is my current project… about 5 hours … not to good at the Z3 sub tools yet so I haven’t used them. The eyes took WAY longer than they should have, longer than the rest of the sculpt by a good step. Also been calipering images of Erectus fossils for deminsional accuracy, but the time seems long still… any input? I don’t really know how long this should take.

Can’t wait to get into detailing

Eyes are hard to get right, but you handled it well. 5 hours isn’t too excessive for an amateur like me, and your stuff looks better than mine, so that’s about right. I like the sculpt, though you may have unnecessarily divided it a bit too far.

make sure you use this tool when you start subtools. the link is below

I think I learned more in just reading that link than I thought the tools would offer… THANKS!

On the sub division thing (This is a level 7 - if that’s the right way to delineate it), as I learn I realize I am well beyond any animatable level. I had been really trying to use this more as a high res design tool more than using optimized models and TMing as a modeler would… but the more I learn, the more I feel that may have been somewhat presumptuous of me, downright clueless the decision seems as I learn more about alphas and texture mapping in general (another thing I need to train more on)… but then, that’s when it stops feeling like digital clay.

What amazes me here is how you guys are marrying components together with seeming ease… eyeballs and tunics and weapons… (I know, I know, but no OZ references please- lol). I can tell I’m going to have to haunt these walls for some time to even get a bearing let alone up to speed.

Don’t even make me ask about masking… I simply can’t get it to work.

(that wasn’t a plea for help… I’ll be posting that up in the other forum…ahaaaa!)

Even if you don’t intend to animate it, I just personally don’t care for the look of the default material at such a high subD level unless it has fine details, which this really doesn’t. That’s a subjective matter of course, but I think the sculpt might look better around level 5.
