Noob Venom

Hi everyone, I’m pumped to finally have Z-brush. This is my second sculpt and I’m trying to learn, but its not easy. Anyway I was wondering if anyone has any tips for doing this spider design on Venom’s chest. My current approach is to use z app link and Photoshop to project an illustrator drawing onto him. Then use the masking by hue feature to extract the design as Geo. I’d like to have it look like its been burned or stamped onto his anatomy so that is why I’m just not painting it. The problem is I loose a lot of detail and sharpness, is there a way to extract and get smaller poly counts from the extraction? Thanks happy sculpting!

Hi there  Really nice start (I’m also a noob so NOOB POWA !)
I guess your attention was more on the tools than the proportions and polishing. You’re close to a good finish with this one, try to correct some anatomy with low div mesh.
For the spider, I think I would mask it with mask pen/circle and simmetry. Then I would duplicate the subtool and extract the “spidermesh”. This way you can draw scratches for the outline before extracting.
Good luck for it, keep it up !

Thats great for a second sculpt, better than mine for sure.
Check out Alphas, which will give you the stamped look you want
This link will help with drawing/painting direct onto model, plus many more answers on this page.

Hi, Thanks for replying. I took both your suggestions to heart. I actually didn’t even realize what sculpting at different levels did. Uhh, I’m so mad at myself. I spent hours building forms at high levels and then polishing them down. Anyway, thanks a bunch. Looks like a long road ahead. Here is where I’m at now. I’ve tried to pose it only to fail so bad I can’t even share it. Any tips on poising. I’d know there are several approaches, whats the most common for you pros? I know when I do traditional sculpture, the pose is often more important the figure its self. So, I need to figure this out. Again, thanks the forum is great.
