[newbie]How to disable 3d cursor mode "snap to surface"

Following the Panel Loops vid tutorial in ZClassroom, I noticed the user switched from the default, snap-to-surface 3d behaviour of the drawing cursor to one that always displays in 2d. In the video it seems easier to manipulate the model in this fashion and to apply the techniques shown in the following parts, however I’m unable to figure out how to switch to this mode.

It’s the first part of the Panel Loops ZClassroom found here:

Up until 01 min 23 sec in this vid (01:23), you clearly see the cursor is still set to its default behaviour, snapping to the surface, tilting and rotating in the proper direction as the user hovers across the sphere. After that, the behaviour changes to the “2d cursor mode” that I’m unable to figure out how to get into.

Can anyone perhaps tell me how I can enable this “flat 2d cursor” mode?

It’s the Align Cursor To Surface option in the Preferences>Edit sub-palette:

Just turn it off to get a cursor that stays flat to the screen plane. You can keep the behaviour between ZBrush sessions by storing the configuration (Shift+Ctrl+i).
