New, need some help "combining" meshes.

Hello everyone! I am new to ZBrush and have been mostly learning as I go. I thought it would be a good idea to build each body part separately on my super awesome experimental monster guy (Yes, I know he’s not great, still learning). Now I come across the problem of re-joining the arms, head and body together again.

The only thing I’ve found so far is Dynamesh. Although it is a very useful tool, I would rather try to avoid using it if I can. The problem with Dynamesh in this case is that I don’t want it to close the eyes/mouth. When I change the setting to not close the holes, it tears my mesh up something fierce. Also, Dynamesh changes the topology and changes details even on a higher resolution (Unless I don’t know something, which wouldn’t surprise me).

I just want to know if there is a way to merge the segments together like in my picture. Only modifying the borders and merging it together, instead of remeshing the whole thing.

Whenever I look, all I find is how to use Dynamesh. As far as I can tell, it doesn’t like to work this way. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can do this or something similar, I would greatly appreciate the advice. If Dynamesh and closed eyes is my only way, I’ll deal with it.

Hopefully I posted this right… Thanks all in advance! I’m looking forward to some knowledge~

Cut the head off into it’s own subtool

use dynamesh on all the other parts to combine them.

Delete the polygons at the neck so there is a whole in your mesh from the torso and the head. Merge the meshes together.
Use curve bridge brush to combine the two meshes. Then run Zremesher on the whole thing to give you good topology, subDivide and project.

Thanks for the reply beta_channel. I’ve been trying to do as you said, but whenever I try to use the curve bridge tool it doesn’t want to auto-complete the circuit on the hole in the body. If I manually complete it, the bridge it creates is all messed up. Gaps, twists, spikey problems. In small segments it bridges just fine, but doing it all at once it doesn’t know what to do. I’ve looked up a bunch of examples online of people using it, but I don’t get the same results on my mesh. Probably because it’s not as smooth as the examples I saw. If needed I can take a picture of it, but I’m not there at the moment. Any thoughts? Usually it’s just a button somewhere or something I messed up.

Make sure symmetry is turned off, use shift to select the full borders that you want to bridge, and do it in pieces.

Thanks Cryrid. I couldn’t get it to work before by doing it in segments, but it worked this time. I did have a bit of an issue though with a stray polygon. It stuck out into nowhere even after ZRemesher. It took me a while but I managed to fix it. I got the results I was looking for. Super thanks to Cryrid and beta_channel.

Not sure about the “Project” thing yet. That’s for transferring detail right? I dont have much detail in the mesh anyway so I think I’ll just rework it. ZRemesher cut it to ~1/4th of its poly count and kept most of the detail surprisingly. Very neat tool. Had it not been for the help here I would have given up on that curve bridge tool and now I see it as something I can use in many ways. Thanks again~

Glad you got it working.
Happy Zbrushing.
