Hi
Werewolf: I think you have some pretty good stuff in your lineup.
A couple of thoughts;
Windows 7 (including pro) may be disappointing in a few years as Windows 8.x will be able to support the new hardware. Windows 7 has had a long life cycle and Pro does support 196GB of RAM. With that said, if you stick with Win 7 you may want to put as much RAM in your motherboard that it will support (which in the case of the ASUS X79 you can do an 8x8 for a max of 64GB).BUT it may be difficult to find that kind of RAM below $500.
I think with Zbrush the most important considerations are RAM and maybe hard drive size and speed (your ssd is good!). Zbrush currently does not support 6 core processors (somebody please correct me if I am wrong) so the Core i7-3930K may be overkill (for Zbrush, you may have other software that can take advantage of the 6 core). You can get an i5 quad core for way less money and still be doing REALLY well.
I think if you reconsider your motherboard, processor, RAM and OS you can save alot of money, still have a very efficient and fast machine and, especially with the motherboard, have some room for expansion.
Stick with the ASUS motherboard but take a look at the Z97 Pro or Z97 A. They both allow for 32GB of RAM, the pro has WiFi and a little more feature rich at a good price point.
So maybe something like this:
ASUS Z97 of some type
Intel Corei5 (I have the 4590 3.3GHz)
32GB of RAM
Windows 8.1 (the simple consumer release for $99)
The graphics card is about giving you some good resolution for your monitor (of course a few other things as well) If you are not a gamer do stick with a “workstation” rated card.
The rest of your list will work fine. Make sure the case is compatible with everything.
Most of what I am telling you is about saving some bucks but still getting a high performance machine with the software that your are using. There is alot that I am probably missing but this is my advice.
Also, if you haven’t already, check out this site:
pcpartpicker.com
This site is amazing. You can specify all the parts in your build and you will get some instant amazing feedback including compatability issues, comparative prices from top sellers such as micro center and newegg. All in one site. It will help tremendously.
If I think of anything else I will post again. I would like to post some picks of my build if I have time.
Thanks
