Multi Map Exporter won't export .exr file, psd unreadable by photoshop

Hello,
I have been trying to export displacement maps with Multi Map Exporter but it will only export psd files even though I have enabled exr in the options and the exported psd are unreadable by photoshop.
Any idea on what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks.

What version of ZBrush are you using?

Hi, I am using Zbrush 4r7.

My mesh has multi tile uvs. No overlapping uvs. If I generate the displacement from the tool palette it works fine.

I just did another test baking all the layers before exporting with multi map exporter and this time it did export the exr files but even though I have the 3 channel option disabled in multi map the exr are 3 channel RGB files.

Is removing or baking layers a requirement for the multi map exporter?

Thanks.

What version of 4R7? It will say at the top left of the interface.

MME doesn’t take account of layers.

Hi, It is R7 P3.

I did some more tests and this is the result:

Now I am totally confused!

Is it normal to get 3 different results from the same mesh using basically the same export settings?

Also none of those displacement maps are working for me in 3ds Max / vray. I need to set very high values for the fine detail to be visible, up to 100cm and the mesh gets all inflated  And I get the seems where the uvs are split.

Any help greatly appreciated.

You are seeing three different results because you are using different settings. The Mid slider is at 0 for MME and 0.5 for the Tool palette. That’s why one is grey and the other black. It’s also very unlikely that you will see any detail on 32 bit maps if you load them into Photoshop because the range of values is so wide. (You can see the detail by adjusting the exposure in PS but don’t resave the map as you’ll destroy it for displacement purposes.) For the PSD result, that’s a 16 bit map which is why you can see the detail.

I’m not familiar with 3DS Max so you’ll have to ask on a Max forum about applying 32 bit displacement maps.
