Modern sci-fi art books.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for cool art reference books that include digital and traditional science fiction art. Preferably modern and high quality art. Does anyone have any suggestions of books like this? Any favorites that you’d like to share?

Thanks!

Man, there are so many, it’s hard to think of just a few?

Anything by H.R. Giger for a start. I know he’s ripped off all the time, but his work is just so inspirational. Brom is quite good also, if a little samey. Anything by Frazetta, obviously! Bisley, Alex Ross produces beautiful work, Chris Cunningham, Julie bell, Boris Vallejo, Moebius. Sorry I can’t name specific books, but search any of these names and you’ll get plenty of results I’m sure

the spectrum books are always exceptional

Thanks, yeah, I’m really looking for more modern work. I have a lot of the classic sci-fi and fantasy art reference books. I believe there have been some good recent compilations of the work of digital artists - including some Zbrush artists. I’m mostly looking for science fiction architecture, industrial design and things like futuristic robots, weapons and spaceships.

Thanks for your help.

Three books by Michael Burns. I might add I hate this
son of a bitch. These books got me sucked into this stuff.

  1. Digital Fantasy Painting.
    2.Femme digitale
  2. Digital Sci-Fi Art.

Based on what you wrote, the third one sounds about right.
Not only excellent images, but how they were made.
Books are paperback, but great stock, will last forever.
Publishers are nice too!

Mike, why?

edit: just went to Amazon, you can get the third one for
about 10 bucks.
More than I paid.
Hate you too:D

Yeah, I guess this is the kind of stuff I was looking for. Thanks! There goes some more money into Mr Michael Burns fat wallet.

Despite my bull, he is a tremendous guy.
For the first book he researched about every conceivable
3d program there was.
The results totally blew me away, that you could make images
such as this on a computer.
Truthfully the impact of them on me was tremendous.
I am literally afraid to figure out how much I have spent as
a result of reading the first one…
Since then, have accumulated literally dozens of books about
different programs, techniques, tutorials etc.
His was the first.
Son of a bitch.

Cool books. Just ordered them for free with my Amazon rewards 8-).

should have pointed out the obvious.
