Modeling a shirt. Cloth detail. Help.

Does any one know of a realistic way of adding great fold detail to a shirt. I’ve been trying to find a way, but I’m not getting the results I want. I’m trying to just straight out sculpt it, but when it comes to cloth, I need help. What brushes should I be using?

I’m trying to get my cloth to look as good as this:

Personally I think it’s much more about understanding the way cloth drapes over the body than what brushes you use. I would get reference and more importantly observe the way cloth bends folds and stretches over the form, and from there practice and experiment.

I think for clothing the best way to learn it it’s by observing how it works and flows.

I will recommend you to buy a full size mirror. Try your self different types of cloths and fabrics. Then, look at a mirror to see how it flows and like Harmonic said, “observe the way cloth bends, folds and streches over the form”.

Also you can take a look at the Mudbox Dvd by Kurv Studios. In one of the sections, the artist focus on clothing and how it folds over the form. You can try that too.

Good luck with your cloth!

I have a very good understanding of cloth and different types of material. After all I’ve been wearing clothes for years, and I studied the folds of cloth a lot when I was in my drawing classes in art school. I was just wondering if there are any brushes of techniques that make detailing cloth easier, that’s all.

practice a bit on a sphere or something…remember most of the sculpt brushes have a gravity feature…i vaguely remember a tutorial hmmmm can’t remember if it was here or not…will check my favlinks when i get a chance and see if i still have it.

Thanks Aminuts. That would be great if you could dig up that tut for me. Much appreciated.

i modestly suggest to take a look in Jason Belec tutorial, he has mastering for a long time the zsphere tip, trick and workflow, here are some link:
