Missing ear?

Have a head, originally made in Maya. Have been using it
for weeks as generic head to add detail to etc.
Recently have noticed a larger gap in the time it takes
to adjust division levels.
Have purchased Uv mapper professional and used one
of the zbrush adjusted heads to see how mapper works.
Am enclosing screen print.
Has anyone ever seen or know what I am looking at.
Seems to be missing an ear.
Thank you.

did you sphere map the head and planar map the ears?

my guess the head had two groups…the head and the ears?

so both ears appear to be using the same portion of the map which would cause problems in z.

regroup the ears to be separate or make the whole head one group then remap the group or groups accordingly.

if i don’t make sense let me know and i can send ya a mini tutorial.

I wonder about the grouping too. Because there appear to be gaps around where the other ear is.

Either that your uvmapper somehow feels that you ought to be doing a portrait of Van Gogh, and as such a left ear would be unnecessary. :stuck_out_tongue:

many thanks for the replies.

To elborate aminuts, first welcome back, second whaaaaaat?

Original head when put throught mapper did not have this
problem.
Made head during a dvd lesson via Kevin Hudson in Maya.
Few months ago, imported and saved into zbrush to use as
a head to practice with.
Did the usual, model, increase subdivision, add detail.more subdivision
etc.
When I took the first head and worked with it, no problem.
When I open up the ones made later there are issues.
When changing subdivisions the time to do was longer that it should
be,(talking about a count of 90,000). I would also get error messages
about memory.
When this head was opened in the mapper I was given an opening message
of being out of range.
This is not a really big issue, just like to know what I did wrong.
Incidentally, know a lot of people that use the uvmapper demo.
Would like to mention that the one you buy ain’t bad and Steve Cox
could use the money.

Van Gogh? didn’t he have a used car lot in Pasadena?
.

ha…sorry

it looks like the head was originally mapped or grouped as one piece and that the ears were another and share the same map space.

try taking the head in zb and export it out without groups. bring it into uvmapper and remap spherical for kicks and see if ya get the same result.

if ya want send it to me and i’ll take a look at it and see what funky van goghness is happening.

in the tutorial were the ears added like an after thought and stitched in later? or modelled with the head as you went?

solved the problem but I don’t know how.
the head you see here was exported to Maya and
reimported back into zbrush.
Don’t know what it did, but it did it good.
thank you all, will quit while I am ahead.
