Maybe a real ZB sponsored Challenge??

Is there a Pixologic challenge in the making in the near future? I dont know what the general feeling in the forum is but I love seeing the work generated by an official contest. If you guys are really busy Im sure we could find a red-dotter or two who could administrate a competition.

Do we want competitions?
Or Challanges?
Do they generate interest?
Do they inspire new users?

Answers on a post card please to this thread.

Yeah! I’d be interested in an official compo…something like modelling a well known character and see who gets closest to it. I think it would be worthwhile for all parties.

Competitions and challenges are great. You could certainly have a contest/challange based on modeling. I’d give it a go. However, I’d suggest, if a challenge was sponsored, that it would be theme driven. That way, each artist could use their strengths, and everyone would be able to participate.

On vue d’esprit forum at Rendo (one of the nicest forums there) They have a monthly thing, the winner of each month pick’s the next month theme. They are fun, seeing everyone’s different takes on a theme. They are voted on by the people rather than judged. There is no prize other than a little logo for your page, but they are fun.

Think it would be a few years before I’d be able to enter any Zbrush challenge. (Zbrush skills sitting at -1 at the moment ~G~) Still, always enjoy seeing what people do in them.

Good idea Southern!
I always find them interesting, though I’ve never won one!
BTW, what does “FOA” mean?

Well, seeing as you asked, my feeling is that yes there is something fun about competitions, however my personal feeling is that we live in such a competative society as it is which tends to breed an unhealthy lack of self worth. Like you might remember at school how same people would always be picked last in the team selection.

I’d like it to be of a format that encouraged everyone rather than scared off those who “don’t think they’d be good enough”.

I don’t mean to be controversial or anything

One thing I am DEAD against is stopping new users from showing their work. Most of us started lurking in this forum without posting for ages, myself included. I only kept coming back because newbies were encouraged and helped along by the experienced users (and coders as it happened).

I think back to the SPACE MONKEY thread last year. Although no prize was ever given most people had a go of that one and it kept me laughing for hour. I learnt how to make a helmet transparent, how to improve hair on a head, how reflectionss can be increased in dark areas of a model.

That feeling of come one come all is where I feel we are at.
Everyone is busy most of the time so it needs to be s i m p l e in its application/mechanics and lighthearted in theme. I am slow to reply to posts myself because Im, well, slow and always busy... :) I wouldnt want to create more work for anyone.

Only a thought. Anyone remember where the Space monkies all went to?

ps. FOA was FAO (For attention of) but I was tired and didn`t check my spelling before posting.
