max file to obj

hey everybody. I’m new to z-brush. How do I convert a max file to a obj file so I can start using z_brush.

The FAQ here at ZBC has a section on other applications, which in turn has a section on Max. There, you’ll find information for the settings that you need to use in Max in order to export an OBJ that ZBrush can use.

Just Export Selected from 3ds - divide as much as you dare inside Zbrush and hope you have enough grunt in your computer to handle the model. Either that or create a normal map for 3ds, which is probably the best solution. Other than that there’s lots to read in this forum.

It’s important, though, to use the right export settings. Otherwise, any UV mapping that has been applied to the model will not be exported correctly. Sometimes even with those settings you don’t get good results, in which case it’s necessary to reset Xform prior to exporting.

That’s true and it’s also the point where thinking comes into play - a matter of turning on the old grey matter. :lol:
