I’ve only heard of maya having one, and I need one… I have a piece of height geometry that’s about double the polys I want, but the damn thing is triangulated (although all the poly faces are square, it should be simple as pie for a computer to remove the triangulatization) if I could find a way to quad it then I could reconstruct sub d in zbrush and make it more reasonable poly… anyone know a tool or method? I have max 5, need a script or freeware tool
You might want to try Wings3D at http://www.wings3d.com. I believe that has a quadrangulate function.
I tried a couple versions and it won’t do it. the triangulate works, everything else works, but i try tesselate quadrangulate and nothing happens.
ok what I did was just select the the triangle diagonals in wings, press similar, and managed to knock them all out in about 5 mins using that and dissolve… not bad… noticed a lot of nice stuff in wings while i was doing it too, i should use it more often
oh man this is funny, I get that done and zb won’t reconstruct the sub d which was the whole point of this… probably because oneside is uncapped… but i try to cap it doesn’t work right and puts triangle junk… hmm… maybe this isn’t doable then
try selecting the “star” tool, go to tools>import and try using tri2quad…at around 35 or 40 I think…don’t have it in front of me…you might have to play with settings…but it should turn your object from tri’s to quads quite well.
oops oh yeah you might have to turn weld to .01 and possibly turn merge on. now import your model… then you can subd with great delight!
I might be wrong, but check to see if when you do the dissolve it also removes the vertices. There is a function within C4D that allows you to untriangulate a mesh. Never tried it, but if the file is under 10 megs, private message me, and I’ll see if I can help.
wow anim you are right that does the whole quading job automatically, nice! hmm still have to figure out how to cap the stupid plane though, only one side is capped … however this tool is HUGELY helpful to know about anyway since z is based on quads, can’t believe i missed it before
and thanks for all the help guys, appreciate it, and thanks for the offer sirquadalot
