I was wondering… Anybody knows a good material that looks some how like ceramic or kind of like stone texture. I looking for something that looks dry. I don’t know if you guys had the chance to play around the polymer clay “Super Sculpey”? well if yes, when you fire it, when it’s hard already, that sorta look is the one im looking for too. If you guys know of something, it will be very appreciated if you can post it up! Ok cool… Have a nice day!
Wow! With all the great artist here not even one can help me? I understand that people have limited time but a sentence wont take that long.
Javi.
The two hour service costs extra!
I’m sure someone is looking. Why don’t you push some materila sliders inthe meantime! Maybe you got it before anybody alse does.
I’m having the shivers and go to bed now… Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Seems I cought a cold 8-(.
Lemo (sneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzz)
Hehehe thx Lemo!! Your funny! Thx for the advice tho! Very appreciated!
Anybody?
there was an almost monday night challenge on materials and I do believe either jotajota or jantim posted up a ceramic mat so you might want to check out that thread. You can find it via the featured gallery.
So you are looking for the look of dryed polymerclay…i never touch that sort of stuff, so i don’t know how it looks…but i think it it must consist of “color” and a low setting for “specular” light…perhaps some amount of ambient color to make the contrast between the parts in the light and the parts in the shadow not to big ?..all the settings to make that sort of material don’t need more then playing with the settings of one shader-channel ?..Lemo has a point in his reaction , its “just” a matter of moving some sliders !..or is the look of the material more specific, are there cracks ? …is it a bit dirty ?..are there discolorations in the basic color ?
…something like this ?

Javi,
Have a look at this updated plugin for MaterialPack. If you download and install the 100 free materials you will no doubt find something close to the material you are looking for… OR you’ll be able to achieve it with a little tweaking of the material’s attributes.
Here is the link to MaterialPack2

Aminuts- Thx for the advice and the info!
Jantim- Thx for taking time to help me out! I appreciate it. The one from the left, the first one, looks very nice. Something like what im looking for. Thx again! I guess for those cracks would be nice to use alfas or masking? Another question that you might know… Do you know how to make an extrution? Like a second layer of skin and then kind of like lofting it like in maya?
Svengali- Thx for sharing the material pack2. I will try it soon when i get a chance. Thx again!
This might work. Its actually a skin shader. Lights are important also.
I’ve included the lighting. This material requires that it be rendered as a best render with shadows on or it will not look the same.
ha just remembered i posted some time ago a starting point for creating your own super sculpey material.
The material on the left is the same as the material on the right…i just rendered it with depth-cue…so the little bumps are blurred !
You can use alpha’s to make cracks and material discolorations…i use the stencil for that sort of work !
As for lofting a piece of geometry !..you can only "fake " that sort of effects in Zbrush…you could hide a part of your mesh, then delete that geometry, store a morph-target, then inflate and create a difference-mesh…but if you want the effect of “peeled of skin” you can do it the easy way…create your model on layer one…mark its position…create layer two bring in the same model on that layer -the mark is used to get it in the same position-then cut away all the things away you dont need with a combination of negative Ztools and the eraser-brush…i made a rendering of the effect and posted the materials in the rendering and the material of the first render !

Aminuts thx a lot man! This is very interesting. I dont remember to read that post about Super Sculpey Material. Would be nice to se if we can get something close to Super Sculpey or maybe there is. Thx again this is very informative.
Garagola thx a lot for sharing your own material!
Blaine I like that material a lot! Something like yours is what im looking for. Thx for sharing it!
I really hope that this helps everybody here tho! This is a good way to share ideas and techniques in how to creat diff. kinds of materials.
Here I scanned two different kinds of sculpey. Normal Super Sculpey(pink/skin color) and the grey one, which I use to model my Maquettes. I really want to learn more about materials. Hope this image helps!

If you import the scanned picture, then you can pick up the color from that texture and plop it into a material. That should give you at least the right color to start with. The noise and specularity sliders should bring you to exactly the stuff you expect!

Glad I could help. I learned about materials by downloading the ones available from this board and studying their settings. The possibilities are infinite. Even transparency and refraction are possible but you need to go through the posts to get a handle on that.
I should have mentioned to study Jantim’s mats. You will learn a lot from them.
ok don’t know how I killed superman but kinda like it.

have included the material and lights below.
Looks great! Both, Matrial and Skulpture. Guess someone smuggled Kryptonite into the Skulpey 8-).

Digital Super Sculpey!!! hehehe Very nice Aminuts! Thx for time again!
Im going to try mess around with it and also ill try to mess around with the material pack2.
Blaine thx again for your help and advice!
I bet Glen Southern and artist that use Super Sculpey will love this! hehehe
Hey Aminuts! I guess you hit the jackpot! hehehe This is the model im working on right now, and im loving the material. Thx.
