K's 2D.

This is Melanie!. Another 2D study, I decided to try a human form this time.

I had some problems getting the smudge brush working the way I wanted too, so some lines are kinda wavy (specially around the eyes)… I realised when I was finished tho that smudgebrush does not seem to function well in Freehand.

Maybe I’ll dare do a full figure next time!.

A very evocative and beautiful portrait, K…

I really like to see these 2D explorations…I have believed since I started using ZBrush, that the 2D and 2.5D parts of the program deserve more attention. I personally love doing pure paintings in the environment ZB offers…

excellant…love that hair…and she is striking a beautiful pose and expression

Well done, nice use of the smudgebrush :ex:

Awesome painting. Love to see more.

sweet work I really love the hair

Nice portrait K. I agree with Stonecutter. We don’t get enough 2d works in the forum. And Zbrush has powerfull 2d capabilities. In my opinion Zbrush is the best package for illustration.

Wow! Great portrait. I don’t know how you guys do it.

Thanks for the comments everyone ;).

I too feel that Zbrush has some very nice 2D tools, the only other app I have experience with is PS tho. I especially like the smudgebrush that seems to work without effort. In PS when I tried to smudge something on a big canvas it took 15 seconds to compute a simple stroke…but with the Zmudge I can be on a massive canvas but it still seem to work as intended.

And for a new artist like myself the 3D tools comes to great use when trying to figure out the shades and position of objects, so its all good :).

Good work, Karasuando - a detail I especially like is the few stray strands of hair that slightly cut across the general grooming - adds a lot of realism to the hair. :+1: :+1: :+1:

And I agree with SC. Although from the demo it was the 3D tools that sold me on the product within a few days, it is the 2D and 2.5D tools that I have come to love and use the most.

Great job there Karasuando, the smudge brush is a lot of fun. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Great image, I totally agree about the speed of the 2D features.
Post work is what ZBrush is all about, in my opinion, to hide my sometimes dubious modeling skills.

Continuing my 2D attempts, here is…

The Vombatslayer!:

Im getting a little more control over the smudgebrush now, great fun :).

Smudgebrushing ;).

A Yeti!:

I keep making things too small tho…I’ll make something big next time!.

Cool stuff!

Thanks DMerchen!.

Here is a larger version with some “postwork”, mostly to remove the effects of the scaling…but I like the effect ;).

I like the effects as well. Your first image, the portrait is an excellent piece of work.
