Keyshot Bridge UV issue

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with UVs with the new Keyshot for Zbrush Bridge.

If you just hit the BPR button, all comes in fine and lines up as it should, though the material created by this doesn’t bring textures in with it.

The problem occurs when I want to make new materials and import the textures, which you’ll want to do for your spec maps, bump, etc.

Frog on the left is a direct ZB to keyshot import. Frog on the right is the same frog, but using a new material, with the texture imported. You can see UV coordinates are selected. I’ve done this many times in previous versions of Keyshot, I really don’t know what’s going on, anyone else getting this?

Cheers,

Paul.

basically, the bridge appears to be deleting UVs off the model on export.

No, not quite. Like the original poster, I’ve been using Keyshot a long time and am familiar with how it works.
I believe there is a bug causing some geometry to either losing the UV’s on export, or ignoring them in Keyshot. I’ve had the same issue with the ZBrush “Eartquake” guy in the Projects folder, in that most attempts to get him over with his body subtool textures correctly aligned failed, and some succeeded. On the failed attempts, even redoing his body UV and resending over the Bridge didn’t work.

From my own experience, everything is fine as long as I send to keyshot with an active texture. Then it has UVs, and I can import different textures that use the same UVs in keyshot.

If I don’t send to Keyshot with a texture active, it doesn’t seem to import with UVs.

This would all be fine, except it can complicate cases where you want to send something into Keyshot with complex polygrouping. And there is always the mysterious issue of Keyshot sometimes refusing to update in some situations, which I am still trying to figure out. But it can sometimes confuse this issue, so make sure you are running any tests on a freshly rebooted Keyshot.

If you are trying to switch textures, make sure the mapping type is set to “UV Coordinates” in the material texture panel in Keyshot. It defaults to Box mapping sometimes.

Correct, it works so long as you load the texture into ZBrush for each subtool, then send it across, which is a bit irritating, but other than that, it works as it should.

It’s great to have Keyshot now as a renderer for ZB, but it’s a real shame they didn’t include the functionality to render turntables. This feature will cost you an upgrade fee of $500.
